Proud to have co-led the ENY Plan with Koren, alongside leaders like @RLEspinal. Good planning is good storytelling rooted in a place—its history, people, conditions—and where it heads if we act and if we don't. Ten years on, ENY's story landed as the deep work said it would.
Proud of the work my team did with my neighbors & @BilldeBlasio to make the ENY rezoning a tool for affordability and investment. 10 years later, the results are a powerful reminder of why we made that choice. https://t.co/k21oZuphwc
@KeithPowersNYC Thanks! It wasn’t an easy process, but it ultimately aligned with the goals I had for my district: helping address Brooklyn’s affordability crisis while reversing decades of disinvestment.
“The Brooklyn neighborhood has seen a boom in new construction — minus the gentrification and displacement that have plagued other parts of New York.”
Kudos to @RLEspinal on a success story.

The idea that the government is riven with fraud is something that everyone feels deep down must be true. And yet, so far the DOGE experiment keeps indicating the opposite.
DEP is thrilled to accept the @nycpublicdesign award for excellence in design with our partners at @nycparks for our work in Gowanus! The project will meet environmental goals for the Gowanus Canal and provide 2 acres of public waterfront open space.

4 years ago this week, @NYCCouncil approved Zoning for Accessibility, a tool that incentivizes developers to work with @MTA to improve station accessibility. Right now, it’s bringing ADA access via a new elevator to the north side of Queensboro Plaza N, W, 7 station in LIC!
"Cities are hot..scientists are now discovering that cities are often more rainy, too. Most cities receive significantly more rain than the nearby rural regions an effect that has become more pronounced over the past two decades as the climate has warmed"

@douglashanau@bradlander@KarrieUrbanist It finally got done and is a testament to what happens when leaders have the courage to share power instead of keeping it to themselves, creativity increases, trust grows stronger, and inclusivity broadens, leading to the emergence of something greater and more ambitious.
@douglashanau@bradlander@KarrieUrbanist Hi Doug, it's been a discussion (how to clean up Gowanus and what it should then become and who it should be for) in South BK since the 1950s.
THE GOWANUS MODEL:
@KarrieUrbanist looks at how we are converting a polluted Superfund site into 8000+ units of mixed-income housing, parks, infrastructure, arts & community space, through the largest affordable housing rezoning in NYC in two decades.
And how we did it by building community support for genuinely inclusive growth.
It’s a model we can use to build the future of NYC.
@hslatkin@MikeLydon@bfurnas Nearly every lot in the Gowanus rezoning area is within a 1/4 mile of a station...so even the "furthest" parcels are quite close to transit.
Excited to see the 9th Ave project moving forward. Team did a good job working closely with the Brooklyn Office.
@henrygrabar NYChoods are too dynamic with people coming and going all over. Our resi hoods are also major job hubs. Introducing resi pkg permits will formalize ppls feelings of private ownership over public streets.
Pkg permits can make many places essentially a gated community.
