@24talk@OccupyDemocrats Come on, y’all.
Trump was still in office in 2020. Pres. Biden became Pres. on Jan. 20, 2021. You know, 2 weeks after the insurrection on Jan. 6.
So yeah, Trump raised the deficit that much in such a short amount of time!
@joncoopertweets About time. We vilify the workers, who are merely seeeking a better life for their families. Who SHOULD be in jail: those who pay the workers under the table.
But it’s FL, so keep walking.
@Diese_Hoden@PopularLiberal@CalltoActivism@joncoopertweets Don’t know if you have children.
I don’t care if my son’s 1st grade teacher
had a 1590 on the SAT. Did she understand the reading process? Did she know how to help students transition from oral language to text? Skills & experience matter there, not SAT score.
@Diese_Hoden@PopularLiberal@CalltoActivism@joncoopertweets Why do you assume that students who don’t make a 1590 AREN’T most qualified? Is a student who made a 1490 not qualified? What about a 1390?
How do you know? Who made those rules & cutoffs, anyway?
What was most qualified 300 years before the SAT, when Harvard was est.?
@Diese_Hoden@PopularLiberal@CalltoActivism@joncoopertweets Please look beyond brain surgery. Think of your worst teacher—and then the best. What made them so? A 1590 on the SAT?
A sense of humor? The (in)ability to connect w/ young people? A monotone voice?
Just look a little beyond the brain surgery cliche.
@ModestTeacher NO ONE has bat an eye about the benefits that TFAers get for staying a whole two years teaching. Loan forgiveness, master’s or law school paid for, etc., etc.
Oops. But they’re more qualified, so they deserve it, right. We need to stop.
@ModestTeacher We give military personnel the GI Bill. Most public service workers also get degrees paid for or reimbursement for tuition. Plus they can get overtime.
NOT teachers. With such a shortage of teachers, why not something to encourage them to stay?
@TomiLahren If you define terrorist as someone who pays undocumented workers under the table or who supports anyone’s blasting up innocent people w/ AR15s—esp. children—we have A LOT of terrorists.
Thing is, they’re already here, ma’am. And YOUR Big Guy normalized that terrorism.
@Diese_Hoden@PopularLiberal@CalltoActivism@joncoopertweets Well, I certainly wouldn’t want a legacy hire operating on me…
Any more than you’d want a TFAer who went to teacher boot camp for 5 weeks teaching your child to read.
TFAers, do you think you are ‘more qualified’ to be a teacher because you went to a top-tier school?
@Diese_Hoden@PopularLiberal@CalltoActivism@joncoopertweets You got it backwards.
I want schools to reflect well on the students.
—And they do so, in part, by looking beyond this miniscule measure of ‘aptitude’ that has—by design—shut doors on talented students for generations.
@Diese_Hoden@SoMiskeen@PopularLiberal@CalltoActivism@joncoopertweets We only get a sliver of this young man’s ‘merit’—his weighted GPA and his SAT score.
Did he share other factors which figure into the acceptance equation? No.
Test scores and GPA are quantifiable; they can be ranked. What are other areas we’re willing to look at?
@Diese_Hoden@PopularLiberal@CalltoActivism@joncoopertweets Pardon me, but I have a simpler question.
Should a 1590 be that end-all-be-all measure by which to admit a student?
Or even simpler: What does the SAT score really indicate?
Thank you for your time.
@mpyoung40 @TrumpandLake24 @larryhuynh Andre M. Perry’s Know Your Price is a more recent look at the lingering effects of racism in cities.
Please, sir, step outside your but-I-don’t-want-to-see-racism box and see what still IS.
You may be shocked. I hope so.
All the best.
@mpyoung40 @TrumpandLake24 @larryhuynh Your whine is akin to the blather of Chris Rufo AKA CRT Man.
You don’t WANT race to matter—so you just erase it. Simple.
Read something other than the I Have a Dream speech. Takaki’s A Different Mirror made me sit down, shut up & listen. Or watch Eyes on the Prize. Do it.
@mpyoung40@larryhuynh Who taught you that Brown ‘corrected’ anything? Brown, by establishing that ‘separate but equal was inherently unequal’, merely corrected 1896’s Plessy.
Otherwise, the schools from which the applicant pool comes would all be equal. Now THAT’s ridiculous. You know they’re not.
@Devon_Neiling@MDPA56@larryhuynh Alums who give, say, $5 million to name a building won’t do so unless their kids get in? That, sir, is precisely the system being challenged.
—And since when is merit based solely on a test score? —Or a parent-paid week to bring water to a village? Such superficial measures.
@AnnCoulter Don’t wish harm on anyone. —But dang, sir, you want Barbie & Ken to be your drivers 2.5 miles below the sea surface? They’d be taking selfies the whole time.
Am a sprightly 61 too. Not paying for how cute the driver is. Give me experience and expertise every time.
@Travis_in_Flint @KristiNoem America, please research the history of the interstate system & eminent domain. The fed. gov’t. claimed eminent domain, decimating poor- and middle-class neighborhoods to build our interstate system. Would YOU sell your undervalued property?

@EdFuller_PSU Comin’ up this year, my last as a Latin teacher before retirement: Won’t teach about Hercules (Zeus cheated); ditto for Perseus & Medusa; won’t teach about Theseus & the Minotaur (bestiality); won’t touch the rape of Boadicea’s daughters by the Romans (violence by white men).
