Account Abstraction for recovering crypto addresses after private key loss. An extension of the KELP fraud proof scheme originally published by Meta Research
5/ Sui is also chasing new TAMs in robotics, gaming and agentic payments, where its full stack, including Nautilus, Walrus and SEAL, plus a Web2 centric dev focus, may let it reach categories other chains miss.
We view this optionality as meaningful if even one vertical lands.
Huge milestone for @SuiNetwork’s Quantum future and another testament it leads every important innovation towards making web3 a must.
Its whitepaper “Post-Quantum Readiness in EdDSA Chains” has been conditionally accepted at Financial Cryptography 2026, one of the most selective and competitive high-quality peer-review venues in blockchain research (45/246 acceptance rate).
Sui recently introduced the first PQ-secure, backward-compatible migration path for EdDSA addresses that applies to Sui, Solana, Near and a few more modern blockchains, but not Bitcoin and Ethereum which use the older ECDSA (not EdDSA).
No key rotations before the quantum era. No breaking existing infra. For the first time, a clean, reactive, mathematically elegant upgrade path.
Some reviewer quotes:
• “leveraging the structural property of EdDSA as a built-in defense layer… is both novel and timely.”
• “A common problem of previous approaches is requiring updates before a quantum adversary exists, this idea is reactive.”
• “EdDSA, unlike ECDSA, allows PQ migration without changing the existing scheme.”
Another win for Sui. Another step toward the most advanced crypto stack in the world. News-press covered that quantum innovation a few months ago, and now the full whitepaper got the peer-review stamp everyone needed to press the button for production when required, as always with safety assurances and cryptographic proofs.
Sui KelpMe v0.0.1 (gamma version)
/// Module: kelp
The KEy-Loss Protection (KELP) module provides a mechanism for Sui account owners to recover their accounts in case of private key loss. Recovery is facilitated an innovative fraud proof protocol and (optional) set of designated guardians + applying a novel crypto-economics model.
code: https://t.co/g80wNij4Pn
next steps:
- reviewed by Bybit + DMCC hackathon finals committee on Nov 20th
- submit a SIP (Sui Improvement Proposal)
- accept feedback and finalize SDK
- demo wallet
- many modes (with fantastic applications from family fortune recovery after d*ath, digital wills, forgot your password, safer custody-less, social recovery schemes, modern semi-custodian and CEX key management, disaster recovery models, ah and scam protection via new 2FA modes!!!).
- examples:
zkLogin -()> zkLogin
mnemonic -()> zkLogin / passkey
any_auth -()> list of guardians
any_auth -()> empty guardians
zkLogin + 2FA provider -()> zkLogin
custodian -()> custodian last resort helper
...
and who knows what else CEXes, DEXes, Custodians, Wallets (incl MPC), invisible wallet dapps, Regulators, Payment gateways, Stablecoin providers, Game studios will come up with.
Massive! 💯 agree KelpMe could be a new gnosis startup on its own, but we received great feedback; there was a unanimous decision to open-source it for a better community ecosystem and allow everyone to innovate on top of it.
The Sui KelpMe protocol 😍 hopefully will change the key management landscape forever, allowing billions of users to recover their accounts by pressing forgot/lost my key!
We’re excited to share highlights from our latest collaboration with @AUSharjah, where we’re equipping students with real-world skills to solve critical Web3 challenges! 🎓💡
In the recent @Bybit x @dmcccrypto hackathon, Dr. @kostascrypto and Dr. Greg Siourounis, alongside our Youth Program Manager, Hashim Al Sadek, mentored students in developing solutions to prevent key loss in Web3 applications 🗝
With our "SUI Academy" office now established within AUS, we’re deeply committed to supporting the UAE and the Emirate of Sharjah’s vision of advancing technology for a brighter future.
With the support of Dr. Narjess Boubakri and Professor. Osamah AlKhazali, Ph.D., we're pushing the boundaries of innovation to empower the youth, and inspire tomorrow’s leaders. 🇦🇪
Stay tuned as we continue this journey to educate more blockchain builders in the region!
KelpMe is compatible with any blockchain that supports account abstraction. That's one of the problems we try to solve: "Reactive account recovery after accidental key loss due to Trezor/Ledger/HD damage"
KelpMe Recover my Web3 Account. The project started from Facebook Research in 2021, published in a Financial Crypto workshop & received some of the best review comments.
KelpMe extends the original protocol with guardians & realistic parameters, implementing it in @SuiNetwork!
Submitting KELP v2 with my students to Bybit's hackathon, which focuses on ideas around "solving real world problems with web3 tech"!
I'm resurrecting a 3y old conference review comment, as the KELP v1 paper was previously nominated for an FC workshop best paper award 🏆
Sui will have a standardization proposal for an extension KELP v2, a unique fraud proof based algorithm to such an important unsolved problem -> "Recover your account even if you lost your mnemonic, you didn't have a backup, you didn't use MPC wallets, no social sharing, you are a regularrrr non-technical crypto user, your private key was lost forever".
Let's not forget that potentially 90%+ of non degens still believe they can just press 'I forgot my password' ❤️🩹 to recover their cryptos, oops!
This is changing with the beauty 💇♀️of Sui's account abstraction and the brains of @EmanAbio and @LolaOye re UX & usability + move experts like @b1ackd0g (coauthor of KELP since his Facebook time) and sui_kelp contract contributors and reviewers @GDigkas and @manos_sui 🦾
Special 🙏 to Mysten's CEO @EvanWeb3 who supported and advocated for this research outcome from the very beginning! This man is predicting the future with calculated innovation bets even for originally impossible to be solved problems, that's why me and others joined Mysten in the first place 💌
Attaching the first testnet transaction screenshot for KELP v2 accounts :), will convert into a SIP and hopefully wallets, guardians, custodians, regulators, degens, instagram and tiktok users will give it a hug 🤗 soon!
@cz_binance@Mudit__Gupta You should all study the KELP protocol and see how, as a community, we can voluntarily allow it in all major blockchains. Account recovery without sharing your passphrase. One of the things that @Meta Research did really well:
