Fascinating historical case study by @FlorianGrisel who uses a Mediterranean fishery to examine whether there is a future for the law and private governance https://t.co/IRnAd6v3Ek

📢Happy to share "Legal Aid Without Lawyers: How Boston’s Nonlawyers Delivered and Shaped Justice for the Poor, 1879–1921" recently published in Georgetown Journal of Poverty Law and Policy by our former MPhil student @kelppsea https://t.co/7B06GPhFVJ
My first law review article is out @PovertyLaw_Jrnl! In 19th century Boston, the primary legal aid providers were women nonlawyers. But these nonlawyer providers were eventually overtaken by lawyers. How did justice change when the providers changed? Read the paper to find out!
Last night, Judge Crotty published a landmark 33-pg opinion, ruling in favor of Upsolve in SDNY. This is a historic step towards achieving equal rights under the law. I'm grateful to people who have fought for decades to make this possible. Full opinion: https://t.co/SuTW6QH957

This is exactly what @A2JEG@kalteneder and I were saying at the @NLADA Conference in Nov '21. Lawyers can--and should--provide services beyond representation. Lawyers can create the baseline resources to enable nonlawyers to better support the public. (5/5)
"...courts might employ legal staff—lawyers who possess the requisite expertise and legal training—to simplify information about the process that court clerks can then provide to litigants without having to exercise their own independent judgment." (4/5)
