@GadSaad When comparing US and Canadian taxes, you must take into account that health care and schooling are additional costs in the US. For Texas, for example, taking those costs into account, the tax breakdown is:
High Earner: 45.03%
Average Earner: 50.95%
Many might surprised.
@GadSaad The combined marginal tax rate in Quebec for earnings is 53.31% for income exceeding $258,482.
The maximum total marginal tax rate for an individual earning W-2 wages in New York State is 54.126% if they live in New York City, or 50.25% if they live elsewhere.
@oitixion Everything that AI can contribute medically will be gladly welcomed by all, and every doctor we have will still be 100% saturated with necessary labour.
@AlbertaMatt@GadSaad So you came out of nowhere attacking me as a "clueless POS".
You can't really be too upset about seeing me defend myself, only to realize in the end it turns out it isn't much of a contest.
Who would you really think is it the arrogant ass in this exchange?
@livingitout37@GadSaad Please - stay away. Canada sucks. Tell everyone you know. By no means ever encourage any of your fellow citizens to move here.
Those of us who are actually here love it exactly the way it is right now, and -- truth be told -- we really really don't want to share it with you.
@AlbertaMatt@GadSaad Tossing out derogatory epithets on X rarely results in the desired outcome. “Use your words”, like we tell the children in kindergarten.
@AlbertaMatt@GadSaad I think you already did pretty good calling half the country fucking morons. I doubt you could top that, but keep trying. I can hear the gears grinding…. You’ll get there! Something good is certainly coming sooner or later!
Excellent! Clueless POS was very good. Hope it didn’t take you too long to work that up. I’m sure you could do better than that, though. Could I offer up “commie bastard”? Sorta reflects the sentiment better. Then there’s always the ‘ol “Libtard” standby, although nobody who knows me would ever suggest I was left of center, so it certainly doesn’t reflect the “boots on the ground” opinion. . What I _am_ is someone who obeys the law, however, like a good, law-abiding redneck should!
@Maurozky1@StealYourDeacon@GadSaad And we were having such an intelligent conversation until the name-calling began.
The Canadian government doesn't see why you should just leave the country without paying taxes on your investment earnings.
As that is eminently sensible, most of us agree.
I think immigration levels are a real, serious conversation to have. People will disagree. Once people stop shouting their frustration, real conversations can happen to try to resolve these issues as optimally as possible.
I think there is an excellent point to be made that the previous liberal government overreached on liberal policies far more than the population wanted them to.
They should have been voted out in the last election for that, and they would probably have been voted out except for the existential threat posed by the changing US dynamic, trying to bankrupt Canada to take over the country and it's resources, and the truly outstanding individual that stepped forward, Mark Carney, to lead the country.
Dislike the Liberal party as much as you like -- and there are lots of reasons to dislike what they did -- the current policies incorporated by the liberal party in their platform have taken in all the best of what the Conservative party offered, and they also offered up Carney, who is proving to be one of the world's most outstanding politicians of our generation.
Alberta will get pipelines, despite very loud opposition by at least half the country, the natives, and 99% of British Columbia, who has to pay the price for any pipeline injuries.
That is tough democracy. Nobody but Carney could do it.
@AlbertaMatt@GadSaad I appreciate your wise counsel, and I will do my best to incorporate your feedback into my daily life. I hope to improve my thinking to better match your expectations.
No doubt your approach to life be will an inspiration to future politicians.
@AlbertaMatt@GadSaad Delusional about supporting the Alberta oil patch? I'm a significant investor in it. Delusional about ignoring the environment? I spend much of my life outdoors, and have children. Delusional about engaging in discourse with random dudes named "Moose" on X? Got me there.
@Odourboy1@Kurtis_Hastings@GadSaad It's copy/pasted directly out of the answer from Google. I did ask Google to show the top rate. It's slightly lower at lesser income levels. For $500,000 income, 48.226% in New York City, or 44.35% elsewhere in New York State.
Don't forget to add in health care 😄😂🤣
@Maurozky1@StealYourDeacon@GadSaad Why would you think you should enjoy years of capital gains in Canada, and never pay Canada any of it? That seems irrational.
There is no spectre of double taxation to invoke here.
Tax payment to Canada can be deferred until time of sale of asset.
@Maurozky1@StealYourDeacon@GadSaad You want to change taxation? Get people to ask for less free shit, find people to elect who support your agenda, get them elected, then change policy. That is democracy. Not your chest pounding nonsense.
@Tyler2ONeil Except: "The Canadian departure (exit) tax can be deferred. Taxpayers can elect to postpone payment without accruing interest until the assets are actually sold or otherwise disposed of."
@AlbertaMatt@GadSaad Good-hearted people who care deeply about the planet are resigning from government in protest of that, but still -- no choice. When your country is under attack, you have to make difficult choices. Democracy is a series of zigzags towards the best possible course forward.
@AlbertaMatt@GadSaad You had your say, and you're having it now. The back-east and west coast environmentalists, all of whom have the best health for the world in mind, have heard from Carney that during this existential attack on Canada from the US, they have to put environmentalism aside for now.
