The @KIPPRAKENYA management, yesterday, held a technical meeting with the Principal Secretary, @Planning_Ke, Dr Bonface Makokha, at the Treasury Building. The high-level engagement deliberated on key priority policy issues and the Institute’s strategic role in advancing national development planning, policy formulation, and implementation. The KIPPRA team was led by Executive Director, Dr Eldah Onsomu while the Economic Planning counterparts were led by the Director General, Dr Masini Ichwara.
The PS got an overview of key policy research, capacity building, policy engagement as well as technical and advisory work the Institute is currently focussing on. In his remarks, the PS lauded the close working relationship with KIPPRA, outlining recent successes from the collaborative effort. Dr Makokha highlighted a recent strategic engagement with the Multilateral Cooperation Center for Development Finance (MCDF), where KIPPRA was involved, noting that the partnership would advance capacity building initiatives in public policy.
Other key policy issues discussed include capacity building for the the Central Planning and Project Monitoring Departments and other government Institutions; laying the groundwork for Kenya's next development blueprint; data governance and an interrogation of the “road to Singapore” projections and implications. KIPPRA also highlighted recent organizational transformations aimed at strengthening its support to the government and other stakeholders. This included the establishment two more technical directorates as well as a Nutrition and Dietetics Division, Predictive Analytics Division, Gender and Special Groups Division and the Economic Modelling Hub. KIPPRA appreciated the State Department’s support in the process of obtaining approval for the human resource instruments.
The PS challenged the KIPPRA team to prioritize practical policy solutions to accelerate Kenya’s economic growth.
