And remember, there are also many high-quality #DiamondOpenAccess journals out there that don't charge for open access publishing. They're free for readers and authors alike! Browse these APC-free OA journals in #DOAJ: https://t.co/Ih9OV0utpr
For @UniMelb researchers, a new Researcher@Library blog post on our 2023 #OpenAccess publishing agreements is live. We now have 20 agreements that can help corresponding authors affiliated with #UniMelb avoid open access fees (APCs). Find out more: https://t.co/hJgdY7yRz4
With the industrial debate hotting up in Canberra, I thought some of you might be interested in what's going on with a key wage theft case in higher education. A thread.
Meanwhile, I've found a lovely community on Mastodon, which feels much more suited to me personally. Plus, so many folks from the GLAM, open access, and open science spaces are active on there now, if they weren't already - it's the place to be for these conversations!
I've long found Twitter to be an uncomfortable space, but it's becoming more toxic each day. The mass amnesty being granted to suspended accounts (for harassment, hate speech, etc.) will make being around here unbearable. Plus, Elon's treatment of Twitter staff is just depraved.
As we gear up for 1⃣of our greatest #OpenAccessWeek line-ups ever, we really need to thank the wonderful Zac @kendal_oa 💕who's created every one of the 30+graphics for our presentations, zoom backgrounds, blogs & random requests 🙏🙏https://t.co/RfMF2l4Dmh #OpenForClimateJustice
Meanwhile...at one of our excellent #OAWeek panels... learn how citizen science🦹🦸🦹♀️projects can raise awareness of the climate crisis and support calls to action🦇🌏#openforclimatejustice#openaccess#citizenscience https://t.co/DJSONb1O1d
We are thrilled about our line up for #OAWeek22 Check out our programme and let us know what you're planning at your institution! #openforclimatejustice https://t.co/RfMF2l4Dmh #opensicence

I presented at #EMCconference2022 with my @unilibrary colleague Amy Perkins-White today, reflecting on a project we led: developing an online PD course on #OpenEducationalResources for library staff. Our slides, with notes in the comments, are on #Figshare https://t.co/iFPWk6UsW3
@thorpe_clare Yes, very true. Yet they had rights to sign away, as authors do with other books and journal articles. It is indeed devastating that going through commercial publishers can result in academics being unable to use those works freely in their own teaching! #EMCconference2022
@thorpe_clare Hmm... I'm not sure that's a benefit from the author perspective, though. And it seems odd that authors hold copyright of commercial textbooks (as they rightly do for other scholarly works), but the institution retains IP of open textbooks. #EMCconference2022
@SamaraRowling presented a fascinating exploration of the uptake of #opentextbook publishing by Australian universities at #EMCconference2022. It's great to see so many universities taking up this kind of #openaccess publishing.
