Democrats have a radical problem, and it will limit how much they can capitalize on the traditional midterm headwind for the party in power.

When your party picks candidates with N@zi tattoos, embracing socialism, and in some cases, all-out antiSemitism, that becomes a real problem with normal voters.

But Senate Republicans have their own problem: results matter.

In modern elections, most voters overwhelmingly vote the party line, which means turnout is the ballgame.

Republicans have built a bigger, broader coalition, but many of those newer voters are lower-propensity voters. They need a reason to show up.

When Senate Republicans fail to do even the most popular, common-sense things, they make that harder.

Everyone’s favorite thing on the internet right now is people from all over the world coming to the US for the World Cup and realizing that it’s actually pretty great.

That most of the people you encounter in the real world are welcoming and wonderful.

That the food is delicious, the experiences are unique and memorable, the stadiums are spectacular and so on.

That, despite its flaws (and there are plenty of flaws) the pros outweigh the cons.

But it took people actually being here to realize all of that, because social media, the news or word of mouth has painted a different picture.

I don’t find it to be any coincidence that this is happening in front of us right now, because we’ve never needed the reminder more.

Whether it’s the countries that these people are coming from, cities in our own country or even just different cultures inside the city you live in, most of the negativity you have been fed is BS.

And you won’t know that until you experience it for yourself.
