@unclebobmartin The longer I program, the more I think Dijkstra was right. He rejected borrowed labels from other professions, insisting programming is an entirely new discipline rooted in logic and math. By his definition, most people, including you and me, aren’t programmers.
@unclebobmartin Plummeting prices for fossil fuels is probably the last thing environmentalists want. The higher the price of oil, the more attractive the alternatives become.
@lxeagle17 I've found GenAI to be incredibly useful for learning new subjects because it can answer questions and provide clarifications in much the way a teacher can. It's no substitute for a competent subject matter expert but its far more convenient than waiting for office hours.
@dhh My first impression of working with ChatGPT to write a program was that it was the most well read junior programmer you'll ever meet. That was almost two years ago. Since then I've worked extensively with GitHub Copilot and Codeium. My opinion hasn't changed.
@elonmusk My ancestors were Scottish, Irish, English, German, Native American and probably a few others. I, like most of the world's population, am the descendant of both land thieves and the victims of land theft. I demand restitution from myself.
@PeterSchiff True. The consensus among economists is that illegal immigrants tend to be a net positive to the economy. They work jobs Americans won't. They pay taxes into a system they can't directly benefit from. They increase demand for goods and services.
@elonmusk The handouts you're referring to were politically untenable before immigration restrictions were implemented. If immigration were effortless, public opinion on welfare programs would likely sour quickly.
@unclebobmartin I voted for him this time around but I'm not holding my breath waiting. Most of his promises require acts of Congress. Some require the government to stop interfering in the market, others require it to interfere even more.
@JonahDispatch Trump didn't say anything that hasn't been said 1000x over. Warmongers are always quick to sacrifice someone else's children for their political ambitions.
@MightyHeaton Like the North American brown bear, I consume large quantities of eggnog for 4 months in anticipation of the impending nog famine that lasts from February through September.
@lporiginalg There's a phenomenon known as "shirtsleeves to shirtsleeves in 3 generations"
1st builds wealth
2nd maintains it
3rd squanders it.
Why? Because in most cases each generation fails to pass on the skills they acquired to accomplish what they did.
There are exceptions of course.
@penguinvondoom@allenholub I've actually read Taylor's Scientific Management. He definitely got a lot of things wrong but it was the first attempt at applying empiricism to how we work. But like Agile™, what Taylor advocated and what businesses implemented were very, very different things.
@IMmrANONYMOUShi@beinlibertarian On public land perhaps. Hunting on private land should be subject only to the land owner's restrictions. The American bison was hunted nearly to extinction by a combination of tragedy of the commons and an orchestrated military campaign to starve native Americans into submission.
