Worrisome Abduction Story From Borgu, Niger State

I am deeply disturbed by the reports of the mass abduction of Nigerians in Borgu Local Government Area of Niger State, following attacks on communities including Dekara and the abduction of worshippers during Juma’at prayers.

Reports indicate that as many as 600 people, predominantly women, children and elderly Nigerians, may have been taken. The exact number is still being verified. Tragically, reports also indicate that about 30 people may have been killed.

This is one case too many.

The fact that Nigerians can be attacked in broad daylight, in their place of worship, abducted in such numbers and taken into the forests should shake the conscience of every Nigerian and compel urgent action from government.

Our people are being left vulnerable while the political class appears increasingly consumed by the next election.

Elections will come and go, but the lives of Nigerians cannot be recovered once lost.

Government must treat this as an emergency: deploy overwhelming intelligence-led security operations, rescue every person in captivity, secure the affected communities and dismantle the networks and enclaves enabling these terrorists to operate.

The Police complain that difficult terrain and a collapsed bridge hampered the initial rescue response in Borgu, which supports my consistent plea to concentrate on repairs of existing infrastructure.

I stand with the Niger State Government, the good people of Niger State and the families of those abducted and killed. We must bring our people home and restore the confidence that government exists to protect them.

Today which makes it 143 days to the Presidential election, the official website of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) is filled with casino related contents, promoting casinos and gambling in France.

How does this happen on the official website of the institution responsible for conducting Nigeria’s elections?
For an election billed to occur 143 days from now.

This is already a pathway for as many fake results as possible on election day.

The publishing access shows “Ajuma Achor.”
But who is really controlling it?
Because how can someone casually get casino content onto INEC’s official digital platform just months to election.

Earlier this year, INEC was already facing serious questions about its perceived independence. The Chairman Joash Amupitan was seen to be not just an APC member, but an APC “online warrior”, for a position that should be independent of party loyalty.

Again in June, just for Twitter banter, an aide to the FCT Minister Wike, casually accessed confidential voters information of a citizen in a different political party just to MOCK HIM.
This was just to mock, imagine how they will casually access INEC’s data to RIG.

So how secure is the institution that Nigerians are expected to trust with the integrity of the 2027 election?

This has proven an actual preparation to manipulate election results or spread misinformation on a website Nigerians are expected to use on one of the most important decision making days in the country.

Also, how on earth is the official INEC website built on WordPress?
INEC that hosts the data of over 93 million Nigerian voters, their names, home address, contact information, is being hosted by WordPress, and not even being updated to the latest versions.
