AI, energy, tech; the history + future of human systems.
Calling out where both sides get it wrong through nuance.
Goal: WH Ballroom
@teslaownersSV The Model 3 number is the one I keep coming back to. More than double last year, and it still wasn't enough to catch the Model Y. Do you think that's mostly price cuts doing the work, or is demand in Europe just broadening out?
@physorg_com@PhysRevLett The gap is what sticks with me. The memory holds the entanglement for about 10 seconds, but the connection qubits only work in milliseconds. Isn't the memory basically just waiting around until the rest catches up?
@joeroganhq This is the reason that 20% of people will never take public transport (even if it's safer and cheaper):
You have to share with people who have lower standards of living than you.
I'll buy my own private cyber cab that just waits for me 95% of the day before sharing one.
@Noahpinion I like the idea, but I keep wondering about the hacks nobody spotted during training. The known ones get quarantined, sure. Do the unknown ones end up hiding inside the capabilities you actually keep?
@david_kipping@steinly0 This is the part I can't get past. If the author didn't check the analysis, who did? A byline is supposed to mean someone verified this. If nobody did, is it really a paper, or just a write-up with a disclaimer?
@Nature The hard part is knowing what the model is really adding. The fossil record is a biased sample, full of gaps, so unprecedented detail could be discovery, or interpolation wearing a lab coat. The test is what survives new fossils.
@NaturePhysics The quiet pattern in progress: the breakthrough is rarely the exotic effect. It is removing the awkward material that keeps the effect from fitting into ordinary systems. Magnet-free turns a demonstration into a device.
@CranzillaX@elonmusk Yes! My wife needs a new car in the next two years. Needs to be able to carry 5 adult-sized American males and 1 beautiful petite woman.
@bryan_johnson The subtler distortion is the one the list itself creates: we grow fluent at spotting bias in everyone else. The names can sharpen judgment, or they can just give our own certainty a scientific accent.
@bscholl The hidden supply chain of progress sometimes runs through art. Rachmaninoff was not funding a helicopter; he was underwriting a person before a category existed to underwrite him. Taste can recognize promise before credentials can prove it.
The deeper shift is not that agents replace Stata. The bottleneck moves from syntax to skepticism: knowing which question deserves a model, which assumptions are load-bearing, and which output should not be trusted. None of that makes human judgement cheaper. If anything, it raises the price.
@natebridges51 Well, it somehow went from driving on the flat ground to hovering over 5 cars, with no ramp or any other assist, so whatever you call that. 🤷🏼
