Kenya Red Cross is responding to a road traffic incident involving two school buses carrying 101 pupils in Riting Area, West Pokot County.

So far, 13 injured persons (6 males and 7 females) have been evacuated to Kapenguria Referral Hospital for treatment.

Psychosocial support is being provided to those affected, while teachers and students are being moved to a safe holding area.

Our response teams from West Pokot and Turkana counties are on the ground, supported by county ambulances and an additional ambulance from KENGEN, working alongside the National Police Service and other emergency responders.

Honoured to be hosted by his Excellency President Ruto, @WilliamsRuto, during a courtesy visit by @ifrc Secretary General @jagan_chapagain.

We discussed the central role of the Red Cross and Red Crescent Movement in humanitarian situations globally, as a result of climate change, social fragility and conflict.

We reiterated the need for partnership between Governments and national Red Cross Red Crescent Societies in Africa, in addressing chronic food security.

We are grateful for the words of support and encouragement from his Excellency, to parners, volunteers and staff of @KenyaRedCross, recognising their role in public service delivery.

It's an honour to host @ifrc Sec Gen @jagan_chapagain as we welcome His Majesty King Letsie III of #Lesotho to Kenya on a working visit.

His Majesty is in Kenya in his capacity as the @ifrc High Level Champion for Food and Nutrition Resilience.

His Majesty will host a high level diplomatic forum on food security. He will also visit @KenyaRedCross projects on food security as part of his advocacy mission.

The @IFRC Secretary General, @Jagan_Chapagain, Kenya Red Cross Secretary General Dr. @IrshadIdris, the Vice President of the Djibouti Red Crescent Mahdi Mohammed and senior officials from the International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies (IFRC) and the Kenya Red Cross paid a courtesy call on H.E. President William Ruto following the visit of His Majesty King Letsie III of Lesotho to Kenya.

The meeting provided an opportunity to discuss the role of the Red Cross and Red Crescent Movement in supporting humanitarian action in Kenya and around the world.

Discussions focused on strengthening collaboration between humanitarian actors and governments to enhance emergency preparedness and response, build community resilience, and address emerging humanitarian challenges.

Kenya Red Cross remains committed to working with the Government of Kenya, the IFRC, and Movement partners to deliver impactful humanitarian action and improve the lives of vulnerable communities.

Access to clean and safe water remains critical for conflict-affected communities—it's essential for survival.

Together with @KenyaRedCross, we have helped communities along the Kenya–Somalia border access this fundamental human right by improving their water access.

In Nairobi today, I was honoured to welcome His Majesty King Letsie III of Lesotho, alongside colleagues from the @IFRC and the @KenyaRedCross.

More than 307 million people across Africa experienced hunger in 2024. Together, we must move beyond managing crises and invest in durable, locally led solutions.

Through the Food Security Resilience Platform and the IFRC Pan-African Zero Hunger Initiative, we aim to help 60 million people become more resilient and food secure by 2030.

Together with His Majesty, we are committed to championing African-led solutions.

This week, last year, we planted 33,000 mangroves in Mkunumbi, Lamu, together with the community, to help restore 10 hectares of coastline.

Today: 90% have survived and taken root.
