Chicago Man Charged with Murder in South Side Gas Station Shooting

Facts:
On May 14, 2025, at around 1:15 a.m., 41-year-old Jonathan Robinson fatally shot 40-year-old
Donnell L. Patton multiple times at a BP gas station in the 7400 block of South Stony Island Avenue in Grand Crossing.

The shooting followed an argument, reportedly sparked when Patton spoke to Robinson’s girlfriend inside the convenience store, escalating outside, as captured on security footage.

Robinson, identified via surveillance video, fled in a white vehicle, possibly an Infiniti, but was arrested hours later at 10:39 a.m. in the 7200 block of South Cornell Avenue.

He faces one count of first-degree murder and one count of unlawful manufacture/delivery of 30-500 grams of cannabis, per Chicago police reports.

Employees noted a woman was present during the dispute, with Patton intervening after another man approached her, leading to the fatal confrontation.

Patton was pronounced dead at the scene, and Robinson was scheduled for a detention hearing at Leighton Criminal Courthouse.
