Sometimes it means knowing when to pause, read past the headline, look for the original source, and admit that you don’t know enough yet. The internet gives everyone a voice, but it rarely teaches us when to use it. Maybe that’s the part worth learning.
There is something strange about how quickly information becomes emotion online. A headline appears, people react before reading, someone adds a sentence, someone else adds anger, and within an hour an entire story has been reduced to a side to take.
I wonder how much of what we call an opinion is actually ours, and how much of it was simply the first thing we happened to see. For me I don’t think being informed means having something to say about everything.
