On this date in 1775, America’s war against “Taxation without Representation" began, with the Battles of Lexington & Concord
Here in DC, that war never ended
DC pays more per capita in federal taxes than any other Americans, yet we have zero votes in Congress

Putting someone in jail doesn’t end their homelessness.
It doesn’t make cities safer.
It doesn’t make public drug use stop.
It only elongates the amount of time that someone is able to access the resources they need.

Cannabis should be legal.
Convictions should be expunged.
The cannabis industry should be equitable for the Black and brown communities targeted by cannabis criminalization.
A 16 year old was shot for ringing the wrong doorbell.
A 20 year old was shot and killed for driving down the wrong driveway.
An 18 year old is in critical condition for trying to get into the wrong car.
And a 6 year old and her dad were shot because her basketball rolled onto the wrong lawn.
In a nation armed to the teeth & perpetually primed for war, these tragedies are only going to happen more often, not less.
What the hell are we doing?
It’s not radical to believe that someone working a full-time job should be able to cover their basic expenses with their paycheck.
It’s radical to believe the opposite.
.@MayorBowser eliminated signing bonuses ($1,500) for PSH case managers to end homelessness the same week she raised hiring bonuses for cops ($25,000, up from $20,000).
Why is there always money for cops but never money for human needs, like housing?
Whenever I say “all workers deserve a living wage, even those who work in fast food,” there are always people who say “well, those jobs are for high schoolers!”
1. That’s a myth. Not only teenagers work in fast food.
2. Those teenagers **also** deserve a living wage.
Reminder: there is nothing extreme about wanting everyone to have healthcare, clean air, clean food, clean water, education, housing, and a living wage.
Danger! Workers are doing too well! Call the Fed to shut that down! A conversation with former Treasury Secretary Larry Summers. Watch the full interview in our latest episode, now streaming on @appletvplus.
Why do you appreciate unions?
I’ll start:
Weekends off
Paid vacations
Work breaks
Sick leave
Paid holidays
No child labor
Safer working conditions
Health care and retirement benefits
Incredibly disappointing.
Supporting home rule by definition means allowing the D.C. govt to make its own decisions even if you disagree—just like every other city in the country. It is simply antidemocratic to overturn the will of D.C. voters and their elected representatives.
"You need to invite us to your table. When there are decisions being made about our people, we need to make those decisions."
