On Friday, the former Minister of Education, the Hon. @Diallo_Rabain JP. MP., rose in The @BdaGovernment’s House of Assembly to acknowledge the formidable leadership of Lisa DeSilva.
On behalf of the @thirdstoryorg team, we, too, want to take a moment to honour not just the work Lisa led, but how she led it.
Over 30 years of public service, and particularly in her recent leadership of Bermuda’s Education Reform Unit (@learning1stbda), Lisa has exemplified the kind of system leadership that all education systems, and public systems more broadly, urgently need.
She has never wavered in being:
- Mission-led, guided always by what’s best for Bermuda’s children and young people
- Courageous, willing to speak truth to power and challenge the status quo
- Humble and reflective, constantly learning and growing
- Empowering, building confidence and capability in those around her
- Transparent and relational, seeking clarity and connection even in the toughest moments
Lisa stayed the course, even when the headwinds were strong. She modelled what it looks like to hold vision and values firm, while still navigating complexity with empathy, flexibility, and deep resolve.
What began as a commitment to transform education evolved into something even greater: a demonstration of how public sector leadership can deliver real, lasting outcomes for communities when it is values-led, inclusive, and relentlessly focused on the long term.
At @thirdstoryorg, we’ve had the privilege of walking alongside Lisa on this journey. Her humility and hunger to keep growing have been a role model to our team and to many others.
Thank you, Lisa, for your leadership, your courage, and your humanity. You leave a legacy not just of reform, but of hope. We’ll do our very best to honour it in the work ahead.
