My first PhD article, now out in the open (access)! A strange feeling, but I’ve had so much fun writing this: On ‘17’ men who found the International Law Commission through embracing uncertainty, and what that means for the ILC today
Just published in the LJIL: 'Seventeen men at Lake Success: In search of the International Law Commission' by Keri van Douwen.

For those curious, “Vol I” will have the facts, legal arguments and pleadings. “Vol 2” contains all the evidence and extra procedural documentation. In essence, South Africa had a whole book worth of evidence. I guess that ends that debate

@inversefox @Whatruonaboutm8 @Panther8819@danielgoyal It is how the legal assessment works though. In principle, schools cannot be targeted, you first have to prove that the school is effectively contributing to military action. You can check the Geneva conventions or the icrc study on IHL if you are interested.
@inversefox @Whatruonaboutm8 @Panther8819@danielgoyal Incorrect: An attack against a civilian object (e.g. a school) is generally a violation of IHL and may constitute a war crime. An object can only lose this status if it makes an effective contribution to military action. Then necessity & proportionality need to be assessed
And then there were six! Congratulations to Alina Orosan who will join the other 5 women on the ILC @PatrciaGalvoTe1@niluferoral@Phoebe_Okowa and @Vilawanm. We look forward to working together to further internation law.
The Netherlands firmly condemns the recent Israeli announcement to declare over 800 hectares in the occupied territories as ‘state land'. This amounts to the largest confiscation in over 30 years. The settlements violate international law and fuel further tensions. 1/2
"The resolution today is a non-binding resolution."
Someone ask this legal genius if the "demand" that Hamas release hostages, in this resolution and in 2720, are non- binding as well.
Just embarrassing.
