@LondonMudlark @CUConservation 4 Finally! After freeze-drying, the fragments were reconstructed using the original stitching holes and new thread where possible. Minimal adhesive was necessary in a couple locations to stabilize tears. Fortunately, the fragments held their shape incredibly well!
@LondonMudlark @CUConservation 3 After impregnating, the leather fragments were frozen and freeze-dried. This process sublimates frozen water molecules inside the leather which avoid the warping and cracking we see with air drying causes by surface tension and evaporation of water molecules!
