This morning, I awoke with a bright, newfound sense of optimism. Californians have long been trapped in Plato’s Allegory of the Cave — mistaking shadows flickering on the wall for reality itself.
Now, prisoners have broken free. At first blinded by the brilliant light, we gradually adjusted and started to behold the sun, the stars, and the true world beyond the cave. We Californian are realizing everything we once believed was mere illusion.
We Californians are emerging from that darkness. The future is uncertain, but full of possibility. For the first time in years, many of us sense we may not need to leave. A golden California could be within reach once again.
