A multidisciplinary team at @HopkinsMedicine has published a research review in Frontiers in Neurology that implicates dysautonomia (dysregulation of the autonomic nervous system) in #Lyme disease.
Postural Orthostatic Tachycardia Syndrome (#POTS) is the most common manifestation of #dysautonomia and has been recognized by some clinicians as a contributor to post-treatment/persistent Lyme disease. However, Lyme-disease-associated POTS has not been studied in depth and more research is needed to better understand disease mechanisms and identify biomarkers to improve diagnostics and treatments.
Lyme disease research is now underway at the Johns Hopkins Postural Orthostatic Tachycardia Syndrome Program which also studies POTS in #MECFS and #LongCOVID patients.
