Ground breaking paper (BMJ Open Heart) exposes true findings of the publicly funded Womens Health RCT - following a low fat diet can be harmful. Misleading reporting of findings deceived most as to true findings- authors 'explanations' unscientific and may be ethically dubious.
Good Tweetorial Re ‘diets lower in carbohydrates (compared to diets higher in carbohydrates) are associated with an increase in LDL peak particle size and a decrease in number of total and small dense LDL particles’
1/2 For this quote we go back to 1977...
“The arterial wall is an insulin sensitive tissue. Animal experimentation showed that chronic exposure to high concentrations of insulin resulted in the development of lipid-filled lesions similar to those of early atherosclerosis..."
Elevated HbA1c levels, (marker of high glucose) can identify indviduals with atherosclerotic disease even when considered low risk by traditional markers.
This study found high glucose is a greater risk for heart disease than LDL levels. Don't blame fat for what the sugar did.
This prospective study of 63,550 subjects found that vegetarians had a 49% higher incidence of bowel cancer than non vegetarians. The results were statistically significant. This study may have more real world relevance than studies performed on religious communities.
Decaffeinated green tea extract, a polyphenol, leads to depletion of glutathione (a natural anti-oxidant) levels in exposed red bloods cells. This indicates oxidative stress. If polyphenols cause oxidative stress, are they really as good for our health as is commonly believed?
How sustainable is a low carb diet? In our practice the average duration is 30 months and rising So far 187 of our T2D patients have chosen the approach of which 97 have achieved drug free T2D remission Like this person👍
Meat is only associated with illness IF ITS PROCESSED. This makes sense just as processing does to so many other foods! Look at the total mortality data from 21 countries from the latest epidemiological PURE study. Though the upper limit is only 250g/week https://t.co/MuIX7WGyRF
Large study in 21 countries from all income levels found no association between higher unprocessed red meat or poultry intake and major heart disease events or mortality. Associations (1.5RR) were found for processed meats, however. 1/

But is low carb sustainable? Yes it is 👍 Look at this case NINE YEARS OF DRUG FREE T2 DIABETES REMISSION Also weight loss and improved lipid profile into the bargain This person is not a patient anymore 😀 If one person can do this so can others. A beacon of #HOPE
The ketogenic diet would have prevented 20 years of uncontrolled seizures, toxic medications and obesity, and that I didn’t need anyone’s permission to do it.
So @DocRunner1 Our UK NHS GP practice has 97 cases of drug free T2 Diabetes remission by TURNING OFF THE SUPPLY OF SUGAR 👏👏 That is 52% of our patients who chose the low carb approach 👍 The race is on to get to 100 🏃♂️🏃♂️@DrAseemMalhotra@rcgp@DiabetesUK@tom_watson
I often see patients told to inject themselves with a large amount of insulin and then to eat lots of carbs (to avoid hypoglycaemia and risk of coma).
This is madness. Diabetics should control their medications, not let their medications control them.

Dr. Sarah Hallberg's TEDx talk has been viewed nearly 8M times. For a reason! Short and gets right to the point: https://t.co/UjrdFK8dzJ
@DrSarahHallberg
I once ate 6 big mac's & fries in one setting while friends cheered me on, to this day they tell the story like its legend.
Now if I eat 2 steaks they say it's going to kill me, the story of my weightloss journey is only told online & social media. 1/2
The chance of death from a stroke is increased 2.5 times if hypertensive (>160/95) and 8 times when diabetes is added to the mix.
Diabetes is a bigger risk factor both for incidence of stroke, and dying from stroke than hypertension. (Of course, insulin resistance causes both).
Over an 8 year period, only 2% of study subjects with the lowest insulin levels became obese.
More than 70% of those with the highest insulin levels became obese.
Remember, it is not obesity that causes insulin resistance - insulin resistance causes obesity.
Some claim that it is obesity that causes insulin resistance. This perpetuates the myth that the type of food one eats is not important - just calorie control. This systematic review found that reductions (improvements) in insulin levels precede weight loss.
So tomorrow as part of the World Nutrition event #WNS2021 I am talking about a great, drug free way to help people with high blood pressure @NutritionNetwrk as published here https://t.co/qqygCHfzst
