@kaepora Blockchains are a legitimately useful technology albeit with an extremely limited use case (and IMO currencies are not one of them). But it was sold and invested under the promise that it would revamp the global financial system. Even with the legit use case it was a bubble.
@hankgreen I worked for a food company that sold to Safeway and Walmart. They designed proposed shelf layouts for their products and paid the grocery stores for them the same way you’d pay for a billboard. They’d even go to the grocery store and confirm that they were laid out as ordered
We need a heist movie predicated on a cryptography hack by rng manipulation and they have to track down the world tetris speedrun champion to pull it off
@d_feldman It’s for historical reasons. Back in the day we didn’t surf the web, we sailed it. You needed a captain, navigator, purser, and a full complement of yeoman. After the internet was moved on top of Big Ben it was no longer reachable by sea so we moved to a single navigator system
@FreyaHolmer@Lucretiel also I only know an extremely niche part of it that will happen to have 0 overlap with your first few questions making me look like a dummy
@freebsdfrau The increase in costs sucks but what really gets me is using this stuff to flat lie about the actual price. Just put the price on the good.
@BoundaryBreak I’d love to see game prototypes that never went anywhere. Maybe because they weren’t fun or the concept couldn’t scale to a whole game. There’s a lot to learn from that. Indie devs will have dozens of these sitting around, there’s no shortage of them
@BoundaryBreak I’d also be interested in hearing how world builders do it, particularly how they deal with game design changes that affect the world. Again Valve is legendary at this but lots of studios have massive worlds well beyond what we see in the game and I’d love to hear from those folk
@BoundaryBreak I’d be interested in hearing about the game design process. From “what if portals?” to “portals good but not like that” to “is this fun?” Features added and dropped in response to tester feedback, that sort of thing.
Similarly game balance, in the same way.
