@MineCreeperLPs@MongolianBeast1@The_Davos_Man Billions in revenue for FIFA*. Unfortunately they’re greedy af and refuse to help pay for much of the hosting costs while capturing most of the revenue, so host cities are running up deficits that the increased tourism doesn’t make up for.
@kcchabangu@MurrayHillGuy1 I was hoping for quarterfinals, as we did in 2002. I knew Belgium was going to be a tough opponent, but I’d hoped we’d at least put up a decent fight since their team was aging and 8 of our starters play for a top 5 European league. A 1 goal or PK win/loss, not a complete sweep.
@n_aficionado@The_Davos_Man Olympic football (at least the men’s) is lame unfortunately as FIFA puts a bunch of restrictions on it so they don’t compete with the World Cup. All but 3 of the players representing any country need to be U23.
@BlakeR2025@CFC_Dubois Pepi literally played mediocre at best throughout the tournament. Matt Freese is a joke of a goalkeeper, Pulisic was a major disappointment, and Tim Ream did awfully in contrast to how he played against Bosnia. It’s as much on the team as it is the scandal, if not more.
@JDlovesball@starsnstripesfc It’s the third most popular sport according to polls asking which one is people’s favorite, but a large chunk of that is immigrants/diaspora watching their home leagues/teams. The MLS has gotten more popular lately, but is still only the 5th largest sports league here.
