Had the pleasure the pleasure to discuss the future of money and payments with my ex-colleague and friend @Kevin_Hackl from @Bitkom, Katja Lehr from JPMorgan Chase & Co., and Dirk Schrade from the German Central Bank.
Whether we are talking about stablecoins, tokenized deposits, or CBDCs, one thing seems relatively clear to me. In order to offer consumers and businesses added value, these instruments need to be built on new infrastructure compared to existing payment and banking rails. Closed systems are unlikely to be able to add enough value that brings for people to switch away from their existing payment solutions.
Of course, it is the applications that matter and that offer people value. No normal user cares about what infrastructure their payment applications are built on. But the applications themselves, i.e. the features and benefits they can offer, are tied to and limited by the underlying infrastructure on which they are built.
Thanks @paymentbanking, particularly Nicole Nitsche, for organizing another great conference!
