@RedRed1972@Jessica56197821@MikeP77Doglover@TristinHopper Yeah I wondered how long it would take you to get to the “jobs Canadians won’t do line”, you maybe forgot to ad “at the price we want to pay” addendum. Just like Tim Hortons, actual family run coffee shops beg to differ.
@RedRed1972@Jessica56197821@MikeP77Doglover@TristinHopper Well you’re not a farmer, you’re a business man, no different than the owner of a Tim Hortons and making your dollar off the same cheap migrant labour. I can see why someone like that would be busy pointing fingers at family farms.
@RedRed1972@Jessica56197821@MikeP77Doglover@TristinHopper The only person working on my farm is me, I grew up around a lot of dairy farms, all worked solely by the families themselves. There’s no army of Mexicans milking cows in this country.
@BlakeChedore@TristinHopper New Zealand is an island, so importing milk to it is hard and expensive, also they have year round grazing, we have 9 months of winter and are parked next to a huge dairy producer who’s hungry for export.
@Jessica56197821@MikeP77Doglover@TristinHopper Most (not all), US dairies are extremely large operations, like thousands of head large, and are largely staffed by immigrant labour. These are the operations where cow health and happiness fall to the wayside, never mind the health and wellbeing of the immigrant labourers.
Some of the stuff is pretty bonkers. At the 41 minute mark, Fife claims he knows that there are real unmarked graves in Kamloops. As proof, he told a story about some woman who started crying when talking about residential schools.
People ask me why I'm so passionate about cattle.
Here's why.
A cow wakes up every morning, walks to a patch of land covered in inedible fibrous grass, and spends its day converting something completely useless to humans into something extraordinarily useful.
It requires no pesticides. No monoculture. No factory. No lab. No patent.
It takes the sun, the soil, the rain, and a stomach full of microbes, and produces the most bioavailable, nutrient-dense food ever consumed by a human being.
Every gram of beef contains a complete amino acid profile. Zinc. B12. Creatine. Carnosine. Heme iron. Things your brain and muscles quite literally cannot work without.
And we've spent the last 50 years being told this animal is killing us.
The audacity.
I'll take my chances with the creature that built civilisations over the oat milk that was invented in 1994.
@Pagmenzies I could not care less about sports, and I resent being made to pay for it. You want me to be proud of Canada then build a Canada that’s worth being proud of. I’m not sure that’s even possible now though.
@grok@add3902@untappedgrowth@grok do you know how climate might factor into cow size and efficiency? For instance I live I’m the Peace River region of BC, does our cold winters mean our most efficient cow size is somewhat larger then warmer climates?
