As we await the vote for the US Speaker tomorrow, I'm re-upping this thread of mine from last year that describes the crazy Speakership votes (plural) when Republicans briefly controlled the California Assembly in the mid-1990s.

Anyone else remember the crazy saga of the brief period when Republicans controlled the California Assembly for one 2-year session in 1995-96? Other than the 1969-70 session, it was the only time the GOP controlled the Assembly in 36 years.

@Whistleblr @DemocracyDocket In California, that would be illegal — but I bet a lot of Republican bosses try to do that anyway. And making Election Day a holiday wouldn’t help because there are tons of service jobs (restaurants, retail stores, public transit, etc.) that don’t close on holidays.

@notcapnamerica This poll was out in the field before the Swalwell scandal broke. The last day of the polling was the first day the scandal broke, and the polling was completed before he dropped out of the race. The polling was out of date before it was even released.

When mail-in voting is limited or eliminated, then selected polling stations are closed or surrounded with "security checks", when poll workers are replaced by ICE "for security", when ballots are confiscated for "fraud", maybe you’ll take it seriously. Too late.
