This is a great point about software in biotech — where is the open source???
I think a lot of this is a combination of biotechs:
- Not caring about software
- Having a few engineers
- Believing their entire problem space is unique
Much of this is changing
A while back, @martin_casado asked me: "do you really think there are *no* circumstances under which it makes sense for a company to go on-prem / bare metal?" In all seriousness, I do think there are several cases where doing so might be necessary. (1/n)

I'm currently propagating for my garden, and I could write harsh reviews of the seedlings that didn't sprout. But I'd really be reviewing my propagation environment.

This bit me bad on one project. A client handed us Dockerfiles which we couldn’t build because of outdated or unavailable dependencies. The client got so frustrated because it took so long to chase down all the loose ends.
But also, the whole concept of a container definition (as opposed to an opaque binary image) relies on the internet still being able to supply repos, packages, cert files, etc. that were GET-able in the past.
@TubeTimeUS@ThePiloseOne Also every seventh and eighth row is all zeros. Maybe it’s true that every eighth row is supposed to be all zeroes and A0 is stuck high?
