Meetings with the minister of @MoH_Somalia@DrAliHajiadam, partners, frontline health workers, & @WHOSom’s teams reinforced a shared commitment to ending polio, expanding immunization, and reaching 700,000 missed children. #EndPolio#VaccinesWork
This week, Dr @jGuudle, @WHOEMRO Director for Polio Eradication and Vaccine-Preventable Diseases, visited Somalia to strengthen partnerships and accelerate efforts to reach every child with lifesaving vaccines.
Our teams and frontline health workers in #Somalia are at the heart of our efforts to strengthen immunization services and #EndPolio.
I was deeply moved to hear firsthand about their extraordinary work to reach children and communities, often in the face of recurrent drought, insecurity and multiple emergencies. They are the bridge between health services and the people who need them most.
To each of you: thank you. Your courage, dedication and resilience do not go unnoticed.
@WHOSom
It was an honour to meet H.E. @DrAliHajiadam Minister of Health of Somalia, alongside Dr Mohammed Ali Kamil, Acting Country Representative of @WHOSom.
Together, we reaffirmed our shared commitment to reach every child in Somalia — including the 700,000 children who are still being missed — with polio vaccines and other essential health services.
With continued leadership, partnership and community engagement, we can accelerate progress towards a polio-free Somalia.

Glad to join @Devex to discuss efforts to #EndPolio & the contribution of polio assets during the #Ebola outbreak in DRC. Polio infrastructure (surveillance, labs, frontline workers) strengthen countries’ ability to respond to outbreaks beyond polio: https://t.co/MfuWaKWHIp
Encouraged to see Ministers in the Horn of Africa + Yemen come together at the #WHA79 and reiterate their commitment to end variant poliovirus. Protecting every child means working with urgency & solidarity across borders. Read how: https://t.co/pOlPDLZG4j
Great engagement with H.E. Dr Abdel-Madjid Abderahim Mahamat, with @alikodangote foundation & GPEI partners on stopping poliovirus transmission in Chad and the Lake Chad Basin, building on last week’s strong engagement in N’Djamena with parliamentarians. As @ProfJanabi rightly noted, sustained political commitment and collective action across borders remain essential to ending polio. Ahead of the June vaccination round, strong campaigns, surveillance, community engagement & coordination will be key to reaching every child. #EndPolio #WHA79
Ending #polio and other vaccine-preventable diseases requires more than vaccines — it requires trust. In #Somalia, madrasa teachers are helping reach children, counter misinformation, and strengthen confidence in immunization.
Partnerships between educators, religious leaders and health workers are key to reaching every child and advancing health security for all.

Today, @FAORwanda Rep. @AwDahir met with Hon. Minister @jnabdallah & MOS @XandrineUmutoni of @RwandaYouthArts, to strengthen strategic partnerships for youth employment in agricultural value chains, skill development, and innovation for improved agrifood systems in Rwanda.
Great to see Tanzania 🇹🇿 ready for Round 2.
8M children reached in Round 1. Next: 6.7M under 10 from 7–10 May.
Every dose counts. Every child matters #endpolio#VaccinesWork
In Somalia, health teams stopped leading with the vaccine.
They led with listening. With social mobilizers who built trust.
The vaccination followed. Trust, it turned out, was the hardest and most important thing to deliver.
