On August 7, 2008, Russian Army's armoured units crossed into Georgia in large numbers, thus committing an act of war, Russia started the full-fledged invasion of Georgia. In parallel civilians in areas under Georgian control were shelled, with Georgia suffering casualties.

TV Pirveli owner Vato Tsereteli was physically assaulted by Anri Okhanashvili, Chair of Legal Affairs Committee and MPs Levan Mgaloblishvili and Irakli Zarkua. Mr Tsereteli said he was beaten at the US Embassy reception on the Embassy premises, TV Pirveli reports
