Last week, I had the pleasure of presenting at the Johns Hopkins Global Road Safety Institute Leadership Course. This program brings together leaders from across the globe to strengthen local leadership and advance road safety initiatives.
I spoke about seatbelt and child restraint use based on our recently published research. Road traffic injuries remain the leading cause of death worldwide for children over the age of 5. Simple interventions such as seatbelts and child restraints could save thousands of lives, yet they remain underused in many settings.
We still have a long way to go, but I’m optimistic that through collaborations like these, combined with meaningful improvements in legislation, enforcement, and public awareness campaigns, we can continue to make a real impact on child safety worldwide.

In the 1960s, a young cardiologist came to the US with a radical dream.
He wanted to build a device that could shock the heart back to life - from inside the body.
Everyone told him it was insane.
They laughed.
They rejected him.
He built it anyway.
Here's his story:
The Global Road Safety Leadership Course team is thrilled to welcome the 2025 cohort of participants!
We can't wait to connect with change-makers from around the world, ready to learn, lead, and make a difference.
Safe travels, and see you soon! ✈️
