The Jaden Hardy deal was never about Jaden Hardy. It was always about the picks. Did I expect to keep Hardy? No. But he’s great friends with Luka and a solid reserve guard. Whether he stays or not is irrelevant to me.
What matters is using those picks to trade for a quality wing
Love Bronny but there’s just no minutes for him here. Let him go somewhere where he can see some minutes.
Also, he absolutely SHOULD NOT join whatever team Bron is on. Doing that would basically prove that his place in the league is a gimmick. Write your own story somewhere else
Mamu vs Rui shot profile is fascinating:
3s made: Rui 116, Mamu 115
Mid range attempts: Rui 144, Mamu 9
Dunks: Rui 32, Mamu 47
Layups: Rui 48/96, Mamu 123/190
Paint+restricted area attempts: Rui 191, Mamu 326
Rui 28 mins a game/Mamu 21 mpg
Wonder if the choice was more analytics driven than anything else?
Jaxson Hayes is ONLY good at jumping high and catching lobs (and beating women). Looney is better at literally everything else. Y’all keep oversimplifying everything when team building is an extremely complex process. Looney is a significant UPGRADE from Hayes.
Going from Jaxson Hayes to Looney is not only a downgrade in quality of backup C, it’s even a bigger downgrade with speed and athleticism
Again summer is not done and i’ll wait till the end to have any grand takes
@GuruLakers It’s one thing to play a role, it’s a completely other thing to EMBRACE a role. Looney embraces his role and thrives in it. Thats what you want out of role players.
Compare that attitude to Ayton who would have never embraced the backup role….
Love this signing.
I watched every single one of Looney’s 25 Made Field goals last season.
Only ONE of them was a Dunk.
Everything else was a layup, where he could barely get off the ground.
That said - Great Screener, Good Vet to have in the locker room.
But this CANNOT be our Main Backup.
He’ll be splitting minutes with Mamu for the backup 5 role, probably looking at like 12-15 mins a night on average, and even some DNP-CDs in certain matchups. Dont mind this tbh. Also think he’s a great addition to the locker room. Considering who was available, 7/10 move here.
Free agent center Kevon Looney has agreed on a one-year, $3.9 million deal with the Los Angeles Lakers, Life Sports Agency CEO Todd Ramasar tells ESPN.
This contract is insane, but I don’t think you can ever fault small market teams for overpaying their star. Star players don’t choose to play for teams like Cleveland. They have to be drafted or traded for. So when you do get one, you have to do everything you can to keep him.
BREAKING: Cleveland Cavaliers All-NBA star Donovan Mitchell has agreed on a four-year, $273 million maximum contract extension that includes a player option for the 2030-31 season and a full trade kicker, CAA's Co-Head of Basketball, Austin Brown, tells ESPN.
People roasting the clippers for this but if you’re the clippers and know Rui refuses to leave LA and the Lakers don’t have the space to re-sign him, why would the Clippers attach any assets to do a S&T when they can just sign him for free? This whole thing is a nothing-burger.
Grimes is a FAR better fit in JJ’s system than Rui is unfortunately. We all love Rui and he was a great shooter/scorer, but we have to be honest about his shortcomings as a player and how those weaknesses hurt the team in many ways.
I think it’s fair to question Grimes vs Rui prioritization.
But I do remember JJ saying “guys that can dribble, pass, shoot” in his exit meeting.
Wonder how much influence JJ currently has on team building and what % factored into the Rui decision.
“Knowing he was never resigning” 🤣🤣🤣🤣 this guy thinks Rob Pelinka had a crystal ball that told him back in February that Rui wouldn’t be resigning LMFAO
okay so rob couldn’t have done a sign and trade cos it would’ve taken up cap space
really he should’ve traded rui at the deadline in the first place knowing he was never resigning
Tbh, 29 shot attempts is exactly what I’d want to see from my lottery pick in the summer league lmao. He’ll catch his rhythm eventually. Come out the gates firing on all cylinders and let the league know you’re here
Effortless scorer man wow. Only question is between the ears. How does he behave when Utah inevitably loses a ton of games? If he can remain locked in and committed to his craft, I see a couple scoring titles in his future.
Jumping for the block before the offensive player committed to the jump shot is a bad habit he’ll need to break. He guessed right and it worked this time, but he’ll be prone to blow bys if he doesn’t learn how to contest 3s without going full airborne. Great talent, needs work.
