Most small business owners have tried AI. Very few use it every week.
The gap isn't the tool. It's that nobody picked one job and stuck with it.
Try this for 7 days: one task you hate, ChatGPT for that job only, best prompt saved in a note.
One job every week beats ten tools you tried once.
@TahiGichigi The Custom GPTs news is the one owners should act on now. If you've built one for quotes or customer replies, copy its instructions into a doc today so you can rebuild it wherever you move. Your prompts are the asset, not the tool.
@sophiebakalar From what I see with UK owners, the wins that stick are boring ones: quote drafts, review replies, and turning notes into follow-up emails. The ones who stall try to automate everything at once. Happy to share what's working if useful.
Most small business owners have tried ChatGPT. Very few use it every week.
The fix isn't another tool. It's picking ONE boring job and giving it to AI every time:
- Replying to the same 5 customer questions
- Writing up quotes from your notes
- Turning a voice note into a tidy email
Do one job for a month. Then add the next.
What's the one job you'd hand over first?
@LS8Digital Good shout, there aren't many UK voices doing this without the hype. A question a lot of owners ask me: is there anything simple they can do this week so ChatGPT is more likely to mention them, or is it mostly down to Google reviews and the basics?
Most small businesses now "use AI". Very few have it doing one job, every week, without babysitting.
That's the real gap, not the tools.
If you're starting out:
1. Pick one boring weekly job (quotes, invoice chasers, review replies)
2. Write down what good looks like in 3 lines
3. Let AI draft it and you check it, for a month
Then add the next job.
@darelabsai The "checks with you first" part is the feature that matters. Before turning on any agent, write down the three things it's allowed to do without asking, and read what it's about to send rather than just tapping approve.
@monetsberet This is the bit local businesses should notice. If an AI can't see your prices and free slots, it can't send you the customer. A simple online booking page is probably the cheapest "AI-ready" step a small business can take right now.
@GS10KSmallBiz Good to see. The hard part for most owners isn't the training, it's the week after: picking one task and actually sticking with it. Would love to see a UK version of this.
Loads of small business owners "use AI". Far fewer actually rely on it.
The fix isn't another tool. It's one boring job, done the same way every week:
1. Pick a task you hate (quotes, follow-up emails, invoice chasers)
2. Save one prompt that does it well
3. Use it every time for a month
Boring beats clever. What's the one job you'd hand over first?
@OlegFlowcraft This is the bit beginners should copy, whatever tool they use. Write down the three things AI is never allowed to do without you, like sending to customers, paying, and deleting. Then you can relax and let it help with the rest.
@benwilson_ai The receipts-to-summary bit is the one I'd try first. Just double-check the totals before you trust it for VAT or your accountant. AI is great at a first pass and less great at sums.
@GoldmanSachs@GS10KSmallBiz Good to see training rather than just more tools. The hard part for most small firms isn't access to AI, it's picking one job to hand over and sticking with it. I'd love this to land in the UK too.
