A man was found dead in the Fulton County Jail on Monday. He had been arrested by Atlanta Public School police, and had been held, pre-trial, since last October. Taken by school cops and caged while legally innocent for 10 months. https://t.co/ETC4s9Gt8z
DeKalb County Press Conference Live Tweet Thread — Residents lawsuit against city of Atlanta for disenfranchisement in the referendum process.

Our place in the movement against militarization & state repression demands solidarity with all tactics on the road to liberation.
We stand in full support of the Week of Action, #StopCopCity movement & abolitionist organizers + activists.

For months activists put their full weight into doing things “the right way.” If this were any other issue, the decision wouldn’t even be a question.
At the end of the day, city council voted to approve funding with basically the same vote count that approved the lease in 2021.
The politicians don’t care about the people. They don’t work for the people. They work for corporations, the developers, and the police. The Atl City Council ignored the largest mass mobilization ever because the corporate-funded Atlanta Police Foundation controls them.
The city fucked up. They didnt think we’d be able to mobilize so many folks in this city to push back on expanding the power and reach of police. They thought the police had a stronghold on the narrative.
I hope they know now an abolitionist spirit is growing here. #StopCopCity
I can't stop thinking about what Muscogee leader Mekko Chebon said yesterday. "The earth will still be here when Cop City falls." They voted to raze a forest to build a monument to violence. That monument WILL fall, &, eventually, perhaps too late for us, that forest will regrow.
This city is in so much pain, and there is so much that $67 million of public funds could do. We have ONE level one trauma hospital. We have a historic housing crisis. So little access to quality healthcare. Overcrowded jails and underfunded schools. Even a POTHOLE crisis!!
“I’m part of Muskogee Indigenous People’s Communities. These are our homelands. Never in our wildest dreams would we want something to increase the harm. Never have we seen that increasing weapons leads to a more peaceful society. Quite the opposite”
—Mekko Chebon #StopCopCity
1) we’re at public comments 98-107 of 357.
2) i’m outside the council room watching & i heard a clink on the floor behind me. thought it was a lego from the kids’ zone beside me so i leaned down & picked it up— it was a BULLET that fell out of a cop’s utility belt thingy. wtf?!
this is particularly important because a big part of the city’s pushback against the #StopCopCity movement has been that it wouldn’t be used solely to train police, but also firefighters and other first responders. this is very important!
"If you vote for Cop City, the only national standard that Atlanta will be setting is a blueprint for how to wage war against its people," says Yasmin Forbes.
The next speaker, a doctor, says, “If I kill one of my patients, I would be put in prison. But when a police officer kills someone, there would be calls for 'more training.' Thats an ass-backward approach to safety.”
Demonta Barrino tells the CMs to look at the melanin in the room. "I'm tired of the protesters in this movement being referred to as outside agitators or as white people. . . They're trying to divide us. But they will not divide us. We run this city -- not brands."
I got here 3 HOURS after the public comment started. It’s 5:37 now and they maybe here past midnight with the hundreds of remaining people for comments
