There is no worse answer to Bergoglio than recognizing in him the authority of Christ to govern and teach the Church. If your pope puts you in a position of having to choose between heresy and schism, you know that something is deeply wrong with his papacy.

The simple explanation is that Bergoglio is not actually the pope. Many are unwilling to reach this conclusion: if Francis was validly elected, then he must be the pope. They have not considered the possibility of Bergoglio not having properly accepted his election.

Those of us who have studied the issue know that a defect of intention is in fact able to prevent a pope-elect from receiving authority.
