@rcolvile@mrleeward So, you're not questioning the profession, but the presenter's implication that being a craftsperson means having a lowly position.
- I wish craftsmanship was still respected as it was back then.
@redhistorian@RestIsPolitics@campbellclaret@RoryStewartUK Democracy requires information/knowledge. Many news organisations know that emotions sell/generate traffic and put their efforts into that. Unfortunately the emotional entertainment doesn't generally lead to informed voters.
I don't think 'blame' is the most useful thing to seek.
@brokenbottleboy Conventional cars have already hurt a lot of people, and even killed quite a few. A big part of the cause of death/injury from cars will still exist with EVs.
@AndrewPRLevi The difficulty for Israel will be to identify the Hamas amongst the Palestinians.
If they go in and raze livelihoods to the ground indiscriminately (as the Hamas did), they turn into the monster they claim to want to eradicate...
@alexhallhall This is irrelevant for the discussion of the conflict.
- it appeals to the emotions, which is what TV, media and propaganda people love to do.
- the perpetrators would have wanted the world to talk about it (and their audience to hear about it). I refuse to follow their plans.
@robdn@droylsdonian@RScowler@ElectionMapsUK 'Letting voters decide' only works if they're not brainwashed by national media, but actually engage with local issues and politician.
If people voted for their actual representative (MP) instead of for party leaders (PM), I'm sure they would often vote differently.
@chrisgreybrexit The tories highjacked the 'Brexiteers', people who don't know how to deal with LGBTQ*, xenophobes, now motorists.
Their strategy of blowing up wedge issues and turning them into a partisan topic seems to work in the short term...
NEW: the problem with using simple polls to measure nuanced opinions
Ask Brits or Americans about immigration, and theyโll tell you itโs too high.
But ask about specific groups of immigrants, and only a minority want numbers reduced. Plenty want an increase!
So which is it?
@David__Osland@brokenbottleboy Are all the police officers laying down their weapons put themselves into legal jeopardy too? Are they going to be arrested?
@alexhallhall That's straight the rightwing playbook: loudly accuse your opponent of exactly the thing that you are doing yourself.
It would look silly for that opponent to say, 'no, YOU are an origami politician' - even though it was Gove who promised all those environmental protections...
@PadstowWhis @SamCoatesSky It seems like the combination of offshore wind and wave energy would be a perfect option. One area built up, using same electricity units and transport cables...

@jburnmurdoch It's a 'virtuous circle': the more reliable and regular a public transport system, the more people use it, and the more people use it, the more it's value for money for the service providers...
For councils and residents it's probably 'value for money' much earlier.
@WorldByWolf@jburnmurdoch Problem with green policies is: they're implemented to avoid the worst outcomes. That means the worst outcomes might not happen and the opponents will still be able to say 'we told you it was unnecessary'.
(similar to mask wearing during a pandemic)
@syrpis I suspect smearing Starmer and stoking the Momentum crowd up against him, is the only election strategy that could work for the Tories.
They have nothing to show for themselves and their 13 years in power, so they have to vilify the leader of the opposition...
@carolvorders Wasn't there some talk about a National Citizens' Service in the Cameron days? I don't know what happened with that, but they should get you on board to devise their curriculum. And then make that a prerequisite to become an MP.
