Most of these perfumes range from 40,000 naira to 100,000 naira, while only a few are above 150,000-200,000 naira. I believe affordability is quite relative.
Someone asked me in the comment section of one of my posts to recommend some perfumes, so I decided to recommend these ones. There are better and more expensive options out there, but I based this recommendation on reality and what the average person can reasonably afford.
Have you ever wondered how large companies and manufacturing firms make their polytene packages?
Like Golden morn, Viva, Milo, where do you think those nylons that carries the product come from ? Well your first instinct might be China and importation.
But let me tell you about Abvee Industries a sister company of VeePee industries.
—Veepee Industries Limited was founded in 1975 at Sango Ota, Ogun State, by the late Chief V.P. Vaswani.
— It pioneered flexible packaging materials and corrugated paper products in Nigeria, starting with polyethylene extrusion, printing and cutting.
They are very big and are supported by the Bank of Industry Nigeria 👇👇👇👇
Develop capability, solve a valuable problem, generate cash flow, systemise it, acquire ownership, reinvest, scale and then use the resulting capital to acquire or build more productive assets.
If I were starting from zero in Nigeria, I would first choose a skill or problem that has a clear path to money. The easiest way to identify one is to look at where businesses and individuals are already spending money. If companies constantly need software, accounting, engineering, logistics, procurement, marketing, equipment maintenance, construction, specialised technical services or reliable distribution, those are already validated problems. I would pick one area where I can realistically become very good, spend the first 12 months becoming competent enough to charge for it, and deliberately learn the commercial side alongside the technical side.
The second step is to turn the skill into cash flow as quickly as possible. Don’t spend two years preparing to start a business when you could have started selling the service after six months. If you are a software developer, build for businesses rather than spending all your time trying to create the next social media app. If you understand accounting, help SMEs maintain proper books and prepare them for financing. If you are technically inclined, provide installation, maintenance or engineering services to companies that cannot justify employing the capability full time. If you understand procurement, become very good at sourcing a difficult category of products reliably. The first objective isn’t to build a 1 billion company. It is to prove that somebody will consistently pay you for a useful capability.
Then productise what you are doing. Many become good freelancers and then spend ten years being better paid freelancers. Instead, once you understand the problem, turn the service into a repeatable process. Hire someone. Document the work. Create standard pricing. Build a customer acquisition process. Use software where appropriate. The objective is to make the business capable of producing value without requiring you to personally perform every task.
Then you move from income to ownership. If you earn 10m and spend 9M, you have earned 10m. If you earn 10m, live on 4m and consistently reinvest 6m into equipment, inventory, employees, technology, another business or financial assets, you are beginning to convert income into capital. Eventually, you want your accumulated capital and businesses to produce more income than your personal labour can.
An example is Imagine someone starts a specialised technical service with 2M. They spend 500K acquiring the tools and capability they need, 500K acquiring customers and working capital, and keep the remaining 1M as a buffer. If the business eventually produces 8M in annual profit, the objective should not immediately be to upgrade the person’s lifestyle. They might reinvest part of that profit into another technician, better equipment, inventory or a second location. If that increases profit to 15m, the same process happens again. The numbers are illustrative, but the mechanism is the important part: cash flow becomes productive capital, and productive capital creates more cash flow.
After that, I would deliberately move up the value chain. Suppose you start by distributing an imported product. Once you understand the customers and the economics, you can potentially become the local assembler. Once you have sufficient volume, you may manufacture some components yourself. Eventually you may develop your own product or intellectual property. You have moved from trading someone else’s product to owning more of the economics around it. The same principle applies in agriculture, construction, technology, energy, logistics and manufacturing.
HOW I GOT A PROMOTION ON ARRIVAL AND ALSO A PROMOTION—4MONTHS AFTER EMPLOYMENT CONFIRMATION
This is going to be a long and detailed read and i would love you to read with an open mind and have the willingness to act upon it.
In every human spheres of life the urge to get ahead has always been a driving force for growth, while some people keep lamenting on their current job others are getting the right information to get ahead.
I will not bore you with much stories lets dive in.
HOW I GOT A PROMOTION ON ARRIVAL
Before i took the GT recruitment, i was already working on myself, i knew for me to compete i had to be outstanding, i need extra qualification, i needed to also have the experience which i have acquired through my few years as an insurance sales man.
I rejected GTCO GT offer and waited for another to suite what i needed. I have prepared everything, tailored my CV for it and waiting for that call. When i got it i went for the interview, the HR accessed my CV and asked me “i can see you have a masters additional qualification?” I told him yes i do, he asked where is the certificate i told him am yet to get it so he requested i go to the school to get it. I didn’t think of whats coming i just obeyed and left for the school to retrieve the certificate—unfortunately the certificate isn’t ready but the school gave me “TO WHOM IT MAY CONCERN”.
Now let’s say the banking grade is from grade1 to 10, as a new GT person you had start from grade1, which was what i was expecting. So when i went back for my second interview i presented everything and the HR said okay everything is fine. He asked me what can i do for the company. I pitched my experiences in sales and marketing and how i can translate that in bringing in deposit for the bank. She was pleased and just gave me my appointment letter and congratulated me.
I didn’t know what grade i was giving, i just laid down a strong foundation for her to see me as an extraordinary and different from other candidates. When i arrived and i was doing documentation that’s when i saw i was actually giving grade 2.
This caused a bit of side talks in the branch where i resumed, they thought i was chattered accountant or a lawyer or even doctor because that’s the grade giving to anyone coming with those qualifications—and here was i with just few years of experience in insurance and a masters degree—i was giving. You might call it luck but i did and laid a foundation that brought the luck closer.
HOW DID I GAIN PROMOTION 4MONTHS AFTER CONFIRMATION
When you are employed newly in a bank you will have to wait between 6-12months so the bank can conduct background checks and also CBN approval just to be sure you are not blacklisted.
This waiting period i was supposed to be learning on the Job. And understanding how the banking business works/training school. I was in training school for about a month and few weeks, when i returned i underwent internal trainings—i was doing training back to back, i was drained and tired. While others where resting i was arming myself.
My job is simple—bring in deposit of cumulative 350M CaSa balance (current account savings account). As i was busy with my training i was marketing all my insurance customers, those who refused to buy my insurance plans opened accounts with me.
I was doing trainings for about 6month and i wasn’t profiled on the system yet because that year CBN mandated all banks to change their core banking software. So this change affected my profiling on the banks system.
Let me use this medium to beg our graduates, especially those in the Northwest, to pls come and run their MBA program at Dangote Business School, BUK. Dangote has already paid 50% of the tuition fee.
People come from far places like Lagos, book flights and hotels for lectures.
Man shares how his 1hr 15mins Lagos-Kano flight turned into a 3hr 30mins nightmare after heavy rain forced the pilot to turn back to Lagos. The aircraft reportedly dropped during severe turbulence, leaving passengers screaming, praying, and even fainting 😳😭
