Where else would you find an open-air auditorium charging a whopping ₹1,60,000 in rent?

It’s none other than Guruvayur Temple itself!

Yes, this is the rental charge for the famous Melpathur Auditorium in Guruvayur!

Earlier, the Guruvayur Devaswom used to charge ₹5,900 for one and a half hours for Arangetrams (debut performances). Now, in one sweeping decision, they have increased the rent to ₹11,800 per hour!

That works out to a staggering ₹1,60,000 for 24 hours!

So, apparently, the Guruvayur Devaswom has decided that children from financially disadvantaged families have no business learning or performing classical arts!

Has the Devaswom Board forgotten who resides in the sanctum sanctorum?

It is Lord Krishna, who played His flute, danced, and rejoiced among the humble cowherd children—not a Krishna who lived in the luxurious mansions of the wealthy!

This is effectively an enormous increase in rental charges because they have both reduced the allotted time and increased the fee!

What kind of justice is this?

Isn’t this nothing short of daylight robbery?

A humble appeal to all artists:

Perform the dance and music you have so lovingly learned in front of Lord Krishna Himself!

Stand before His sacred doorway, lose yourselves in devotion, and dance with your whole heart!

Krishna will surely watch over you and shower His blessings upon you!

In fact, the Devaswom should be using a portion of its revenue to provide free training in classical arts to children from underprivileged backgrounds.

After all, Lord Krishna Himself is the greatest of artists!

Forget the fact that the Devaswom is not doing even that!

But is it fair to impose such exorbitant charges on children who have worked so hard to master their art and are simply seeking an opportunity to perform their Arangetram?

Is this exploitation justified in the name of devotion and culture?
