John Passalacqua, Chief Executive Officer of First Phosphate Corp. (@Nasdaq : $PHOS) (CSE: PHOS) (OTCQX: FRSPF) (FSE: KD0), broke down the chemistry of the lithium iron phosphate battery cathode in his presentation at the Precious Metals and Critical Minerals Virtual Investor Conference. By his figures, the LFP cathode is 4% lithium, 35% iron and a full 61% phosphate, and First Phosphate is focused on supplying that phosphate from high-purity igneous rock in Québec.

Phosphate's share of the cathode came alongside his figures on the growth of LFP batteries and on the number of companies working in lithium:
• LFP batteries now account for 77% of all batteries produced worldwide, up from about 30% market penetration around 2023, by his account
• Electric vehicles are only about 15% of the LFP industry, he said, naming large-scale energy storage, AI data centers, robotics and automation, defense and telecom among the biggest growing sectors
• He cited 15 times more phosphate than lithium in the cathode of an LFP battery
• More than 150 public companies are extracting or purifying in the lithium industry, by his count
Passalacqua summed up where First Phosphate sits in that supply chain: "And when we look at phosphate, First Phosphate is the only company, as far as we know, that's out there that's 100% fully focused on phosphate for the lithium iron phosphate battery industry."
