Islamic prayer has strict requirements. It is called Taharah. Cleanliness of body. Cleanliness of clothes. The surface must be clean. That is a fundamental condition of valid Salah. Not optional.

A public street. Middle of a political protest. Walked on all day by thousands of people. Not clean under Islamic law. Any devout Muslim knows this.

What people were watching was performance.
