@AnnaMeierPS Congratulations!!! Dissertating during the pandemic was no joke. So glad to be done and so glad that you are too!!

[Lauren K. @kinnlac]

@DanSpoko @StephenMarrin @alexbollfrass I designed an analytic methodology to support anticipatory intel for my dissertation, grounded on conflict resolution research. It was unusual for @GMUCarterSchool & I did lots of legwork to get informal feedback from IC contacts but was fully supported by my committee.

[Lauren K. @kinnlac]

@AnnaMeierPS Thanks for the recommendation and for sharing your insights- adding this to my reading list!

[Lauren K. @kinnlac]

Really useful article on rethinking analytic typologies!

This is a really useful thread for considering potential factors that contributed to the lack of protests and/or violence yesterday.

[Brian J. Phillips, also on Bsky.app @brian_jphillips]

An interesting "negative case," the dog that didn't bark... Why was there no pro-Trump violence on January 20, and only miniscule pro-Trump protests? After January 6, extremists had promised more, across the US.

A few explanations, and thoughts for the future...

[Lauren K. @kinnlac]

@brian_jphillips This is a really useful thread! I think your first theory is esp. important in highlighting the interdependent relationship between discourse and violence. The latter tends to take place only after it’s been legitimized by the former.

@ziadachkar @GMUCarterSchool Congratulations!!! 🎉🎊🍾

[Lauren K. @kinnlac]

Successfully defended my dissertation today! So grateful for the wonderful support system- both professional and personal- that helped make this possible.

[Lauren K. @kinnlac]

@jpderosa Thanks so much, John!!!

@kjmcinnis1 So true! I’m getting ready to defend next month, and I just had a conversation recently about how writing a dissertation has been a humbling process.

[Lauren K. @kinnlac]

My mantra for August: a good dissertation is a done dissertation.

[Lauren K. @kinnlac]

@ettounsiyaFJ 🙌🙌

[Lauren K. @kinnlac]

@MaggieCaroline1 This is everything. If pre-2020 me knew that my bf would move in a month b4 a pandemic and I’d be trying to finish my dissertation in quarantine, I would expect a disaster. But having an unconditional support system has kept me sane in the hardest moments.

[Lauren K. @kinnlac]

@_danigilbert Congratulations!!! So exciting!!

[Lauren K. @kinnlac]

@azelin will be getting an explicit shoutout in my dissertation for his efforts in making @Jihadology_Net available for academics. My research on the discursive dynamics between the USG and Al-Shabaab would not be possible without this resource.

[Aaron Y. Zelin @azelin]

Today is the 10 year anniversary of @Jihadology_Net. Happy that it has been a useful resource for the research community. Thank you to all for the continued support of my website!

[Lauren K. @kinnlac]

@azelin @Jihadology_Net My dissertation research would not be possible without your website. I can’t thank you enough for your efforts to make these resources available for academic research.

Repping my alma mater, @WakeForest, and anticipating good things to come for @WakeMBB and @ForbesWakeHoops with my “Roll the Quad” mask- Go Deacs!! 🎩 @DemonDeacons

@jbordeaux I can’t think of anyone more qualified for the job than @ColMorrisDavis! I have so much respect for all of the good he’s done throughout his career, and the integrity of his character is apparent in both his personal and professional life. (cc: @ChocaholicBrit)
