It's really incredible how much written material was created by medieval Icelanders. The entire Icelandic "Saga Corpus" contains 1.5 million words (around 5,000 pages).

This is a larger text corpus than what survives to us from ancient Egypt, and it was created by an island with a population of only several tens of thousands.
