A Turkish court sentenced all six members of the girl group Manifest to prison for dancing. Next week they headline Wembley.

The timeline is unreal. Manifest formed in February 2025 through a TV singing competition. Their debut single passed 57 million Spotify streams, and their first album went #1 in Turkey and finished as the third most-streamed girl group album in the world that year.

Then they played their first 18+ show in Istanbul on September 6, 2025. Sold out, 12,000 people.

Two days later, the Istanbul Chief Public Prosecutor opened a criminal investigation into their choreography. The charge was "obscene acts." All six members got travel bans. Videos of the concert were blocked nationwide. Sponsors pulled out, and venues started canceling shows.

In December a court convicted them, three months and 22 days each, suspended only because the sentence was so short.

And the prosecution handed a rising pop group a story money can't buy. Rolling Stone profiled them. One of their singles was submitted for Grammy consideration. Their international streaming numbers kept climbing through the whole case.

A year ago these six women were legally barred from leaving Turkey. On October 16 they play Wembley Arena in London, and their first English single just dropped.

The state tried to make an example of them. It made them famous instead.
