@yellowrosey3@melancoptimist I’ve come to discover that the bigger discrepancy between Catholicism and others is in the relationship of faith and reason. Not even the classic “faith and works” we’re accustomed to hearing about.
@grok being consistently blocked by a "high demand" paywall while I've been trying to make summer travel plans is really showing me how quickly we become dependent on a new technology.
@PAHoyeck Not a take just yet but the possibility that Descartes was proposing an isolated thought experiment/theory of nature with the goal of advancing science, medicine, etc. and didn’t actually intend for his work to change philosophy itself going forward is fascinsting.
@yellowrosey3 @tillwehvfaces I discovered this and used it in a paper to refute a certain modern philosopher this past semester. He’s a gem. My goal is to finish Orthodoxy and his other major works this year!
@yellowrosey3 Every American needs to know the full story of Our Lady of Guadalupe. Her words, the miraculous image, the number of conversion, etc. And all American Catholics should have a devotion to her. It’s not a kitschy ethnic celebration. She belongs to everyone and she still has power!

@HoneyTongueMuse Passed by one all the time on a recent trip to Rome and the temptation to see what it’s like crossed my mind, but then I realized where I was!
@OVTweetmarck ✅ This “takeaway” is the result of the modern idea that the basis of our faith is “be a nice person”, not humble repentance and reliance on God’s mercy. Of course, decency is important but true charity is a fruit that flows out of knowing the saving power of the Paschal Mystery
Still in the month of the dead, I'll remind you that there's a mountain in Vermont with the only Carthusians in North America on it.
These silent, semi-hermits will say a cycle of Masses for your departed loved ones.
They have died to the world, and all they do is pray for us.
@dlongenecker1 Yes. “They sleep clothed, and girded with belts or cords; but they should remove their knives, least they accidently cut themselves in their sleep.”
