@mrdavidrowe The CofE has flying bishops the create alternate provinces in effect. Post-Christian TEC bishops crush all within their reach, like East German apparatchiks. Let us find something in between, that is truly episcopal, truly Christian.
@mrdavidrowe It is damaging for all parties when young parishes go diocese shopping. We were told that affinity dioceses would whither through attrition. They have flourished instead. Something to address.
@turtology Hmm…. It’s DOES have to two tunes for the odd and even verses.
But…. The chorus saves all. Our choir does some of the heavy lifting on verses one and two. And the last 2 verses just pick up remarkable momentum for a spirited finish💪 🎶
Being late Gen X is perfect timing. Had a childhood without the internet, college without smartphones, grad school and early career without AI, and will get to live a reasonably long and fruitful life before the machines exterminate us all.
@jagges Ha, very true :-)
My musical/historical obsessions are my own issue
I wonder if a median Oxford don in, say, 1960 knew he was the luckiest man alive
@jagges Beautiful! But timeline is prob wrong imo. This David Willcocks descant to Irby might’ve been used at King’s College Cambridge in the’60’s, but wasn’t actually published until 1970. So was it sung at Magdelan before Lewis’s death in ‘63? Prob not. Beautiful scene, nonetheless
@exceeding_love@extrasalt513 This American had to google the Archers :-)
I’m sure laudable is holding down Borsetshire admirably.
I only censure for farming out doctrine to the variable winds of Synod: a practice neither Reformed, nor patristic, nor biblical
@exceeding_love@extrasalt513 It means they both caved on the Sexual Revolution- or certainly the bits the culture currently cares about- then demand we pretend they’re courageous members of the Night Watch or something
The deepest Anglican position on anything like this is that regicide is fundamentally wrong, so maybe sign off and go relax and enjoy an economy and living standard worse than Mississippi’s.
A wonderful article about how the Oxford chapels are buzzing again, by the splendid chaplain of Oriel, Rev'd Dr Robert Wainwright https://t.co/KWlvospQhY
