Tumbleweeds start out as tiny seedlings; by summer the plant has a round shape. They grow flowers and fruits. By fall they dry and detach from their roots, so they spread their seeds.
After Minnie Cox was forced out of her post in Mississippi amid local pressure, President Theodore Roosevelt continued to support her by keeping her salary in place and effectively penalized the town by redirecting its mail service 30 miles away until she was reinstated.
In 1903, Minnie M. Cox became one of the first Black women in the United States to serve as a postmaster when she was appointed to lead the post office in Indianola, Mississippi. Her appointment was met with strong resistance from some white residents who opposed being served under her leadership. The hostility escalated to the point that Cox offered her resignation, but President Theodore Roosevelt refused to accept it and publicly affirmed her right to remain in office.
Instead of replacing her, Roosevelt took the unusual step of suspending postal service in Indianola and rerouting mail through nearby towns. As a result, residents had to travel considerable distances to retrieve their mail, leading to widespread inconvenience and frustration. Cox continued to receive her salary while the situation remained unresolved. The episode, later called the “Indianola Affair,” attracted national attention and underscored both the racial tensions of the Jim Crow era and Roosevelt’s willingness to challenge local discrimination despite political risk.
BOOM! Jamie Raskin is UNSTOPPABLE: Constitutional scholar, lawyer, and competent congressman Jamie Raskin is looking healthier and more energized than ever.
He just drew a moral line on the House floor that the GOP can't cross: "We draw a line against the rape and sexual violation of children."
He named the banks that bankrolled Epstein's billion-dollar trafficking ring: JPMorgan Chase, Deutsche Bank, Bank of America, and Bank of New York Mellon.
He named Alex Acosta—Trump's Labor Secretary—who killed the investigation that could've brought down the entire network. He looked directly at the GOP and said: "You have children. Don't you want to know?" Then he mentioned college sports teams. You know who that is.
Jim Jordan—who had a locker two down from Dr. Richard Strauss at Ohio State, whom wrestlers say looked them in the face and dismissed their abuse as "that's just Strauss," and who they say KNEW and did NOTHING while 177 young men were violated.
And the files? They show Elon Musk emailing Epstein asking about the "wildest party" on his island and responding to Epstein's offer of "no one over 25 and all very cute." JPMorgan lawsuits allege Epstein referred to Musk as a client WHILE moving billions for his trafficking operation.
This isn't about party. This is about truth.
Conservatives: You scream about "protecting children" while voting for the men who covered up the largest child sex trafficking ring in American history.
How do you sleep? How do you vote? How do you look your kids in the eye?
the big guy upstairs wasn't pleased with this interview:
TRUMP: Is that wind, or what?
WELKER: Is that rain?
TRUMP: What is that?
SOMEONE OFF CAMERA: Rain
History is slipping from the minds of Americans.
The French Revolution did not begin with a guillotine.
It began when regular people couldn’t afford bread to feed their children while the elite continued living as though nothing was wrong.
History suggests that societies become unstable when suffering is concentrated.
People who continue to blame New World Screwworm crisis on the Biden Administration need to stop
The Secretary has had 15 months to prepare a competent response, and despite what some are saying, the response has been lackluster and unserious
Let’s go over some facts:
In order to eradicate the NWS, we need somewhere between 500M-600M sterile flies produced WEEKLY, and we currently produce 100M weekly
There are current mechanisms and technologies that could be deployed IMMEDIATELY in order to produce those numbers that have been ignored by the USDA for the past 6 months
The Animal and Plant Health Inspection Service (APHIS) which oversees the NWS response is a disaster. There were some competent veterinarians interviewed during the transition willing to serve and reform the bureau who were blocked by the Secretary and her team. Instead they decided to retain the same director from the Biden Administration (ironic) who botched the response to the Avian flu
The tick rider program (people on horseback looking at wildlife and livestock in desolate areas) is completely disorganized, so the “surveillance” mechanisms that continue to be touted are not sufficient enough to detect these infestations in extremely rural areas in the timely manner required to combat this
On top of all this, producers in Texas are being pressured NOT TO REPORT potential cases, and if it wasn’t for some brave people reporting on this current case in LaPryor, it’s possible it would have been covered up
NATIONAL EMERGENCY DECLARATION NOW
He was told they couldn't find his diploma until his sister, whom he hadn't seen in over a year because she was on military duty, walked out carrying it.
#GuillermoDelToro knows horror well, which makes his praise of #AppleTV's "mesmerizing" new 10-episode horror-comedy series quite notable:
"If I may- in my estimation- #WidowsBay may very well be the best streaming series in a long time… and hands down one of the most mesmerizing acts of narrative prestidigitation in Horror."

Bernie Sanders fires back at Jeff Bezos on taxes and billionaire threats:
“What they are saying is: you raise my taxes in California… I’m leaving the state. And I’m gonna shut down my company and you’re gonna be unemployed. That’s the debate. That’s not a debate. That is my power over you. That is extortion. That is blackmail. Heads I win, tails you lose. You can’t beat me.”
In 1913, Teddy Roosevelt wrote America "had come to the stage where for our people what was needed was a real democracy; and of all forms of tyranny the least attractive and the most vulgar is the tyranny of mere wealth, the tyranny of a plutocracy.”
True then. More true today.
105 years ago today, a mob of White people began a vile, murderous attack on the Greenwood District, a flourishing Black community in Tulsa and the home of Black Wall Street.
Imagine if the Greenwood District, and many other thriving Black communities, had not been intentionally destroyed at the hands of racism and white supremacy.
