Years and years ago I pitched an ADN podcast called “We’re No. 1” where each week we’d explore some statistical category where Alaska leads the nation. (Mostly not great stuff. But maybe also some fun episodes to be had on urban porcupine encounters or something)
@cinyc9@alykaramazov@Thorongil16 I don't want to come across like I'm asking you to do the work, I just think the rural-turnout drop may have started in 2022, so it may not account for differences in 2022 and 2024 outcomes.
@cinyc9@alykaramazov Have you done a similar comparison between the 2018 and 2022 turnouts? My sense was that turnout was down across rural areas in 2022 as well, so the 2022 and 2024 electorates may be similar if one can account for the normal changes from off-year to presidential years.

@ShanahStone@AlaskaBeacon It happens every election cycle with ballot measures, but doesn't always get a lot of attention. As the article says, it's required by state law.
The current results on the Alaska Division of Elections site show 66,000 votes. The results of roughly 140,000 of 192,000 primary votes were announced on election night in 2022.
3 rural Alaska precincts fail to open for primary voting after workers don’t respond to state, reports Andrew Kitchenman of the @AlaskaBeacon: https://t.co/SNOnpiev8u #akleg#akelect
Here's what you asked us to ask the candidates in Alaska's Aug. 20 primary election, says editor @kitchenman, via @AlaskaBeacon and @statesnewsroom.
