BREAKING: John Healey was offered only £10billion extra money for the Ministry of Defence, The Times has been told.
He told the Prime Minister that a 0.08 per cent of GDP increase to defence would not keep the country safe.
He only got the full offer on Monday afternoon - and Number 10 tried to rush and publish the DIP on Thursday, it is understood. Healey was clear that rushing through the plan was too risky for defence and personnel, as the plan needed to be properly finalised and was too important.
The offer was £13.5billion - of which only £10 billion was real cash.
Military chiefs said the rest was Treasury trickery - and "would not end hollowing out and would delay key transformation", it is understood
Isn't it so weird that every British teenager gets examined on their ability to produce a readable piece of literary criticism without ever reading any literary criticism, just going by mnemonics, a bit like medieval people drawing elephants

@norfener_priv Indeed...the appearance of doing something in the short term is far more appealing than actually dealing with long term change because lack of vision/quick ego wins/fear of losing future elections drives politicians' behaviour. Not sure how that's ever gonna change though
Sir Keir Starmer has announced that AI tutors will be rolled out to 450,000 children on free school meals to close the attainment gap.
Speaking at London Tech Week, the PM also announced the government's new AI jobseeking tool.
Given that 16 year olds are getting the vote, this would mean they literally would be able to vote but it would be illegal for them to watch youtube. Incredible
Overwhelmingly, people do not want this. Nearly THREE MILLION people petitioned against this, and 9k agreed to it. When the state no longer takes care of its people the country's future is doomed.
Losing Anthony Head genuinely feels like losing a beloved uncle or something; he was such a warm and kind figure whose characters brought so much comfort. May he rest in peace ♥️
If that same 5Pillars article was done about Christians there would (rightfully) be huge outrage, but because Islam is commonly associated with a different skin colour we should just accept it?
Applying such different standards for different races is pretty racist itself 🤷
Telling British Muslims to essentially 'go home' if they're not sufficiently understanding or accepting of gay people is just racist.
Western gay men are some of the most privileged and obnoxiously bigoted people on earth - how can you expect solidarity if you act like this?
It's absolutely baffling to see the backlash against this announcement.
Imagine complaining that the UK is securing a multi-billion-pound private investment.
Let's look at the actual numbers: taxpayers are funding £1.3bn for local roads & a new rail station. In return, Universal is spending £5 billion to build the park and another £1 billion operating it.
Bedford(& the UK) gets 28,000 total jobs, a massive revitalization of a former industrial site, & a projected £50 billion economic boost.
The sheer cynicism around projects like this is exactly what holds the UK back. If we treat massive, job-creating investments as something to be outraged about, we only guarantee our own economic stagnation.
The Henry Nowak thing. If you watch the video, before Nowak complains of being unable to breathe and having been stabbed, the one police officer notes that "he has a mouthful of blood". Now when a person with a mouthful of blood starts complaining that they can't breathe and that they have been stabbed, alarm bells should be starting to go off. Then, a few moments later a policewoman requests an ambulance saying "His pupils aren't even reacting". By that point anyone with any bit of sense would surely have realised that there was a very serious problem. Now these same officers, apparently having been bereft of anything approaching basic common sense, are blaming their DEI training.
If you earned £1,000,000 a day from when Napoleon was born, you would have less money than HS2's projected cost.
Stuff like this, alongside bat tunnels, is why.
