🚨 SUMMARY: The UK's social media ban for children from early 2027:

- "User-to-user" apps where people create, share and interact with content (e.g. TikTok, Instagram, Snapchat, YouTube, X, Facebook) will be banned for under-16s

- WhatsApp, Signal and YouTube Kids will be exempt

- Under-16s will also be banned from livestreaming, messaging strangers on gaming apps like Discord and using disappearing messages

- 16 and 17 year olds will face nightly social media curfews and limits on infinite scrolling with more details next month

- AI "romantic companion" chatbots will be banned for under-18s

- Adults can still access social media through age checks like facial recognition, digital IDs, passports and credit cards

The council house swapping Facebook groups and websites are very eye-opening. There are 6- and 7-bedroom properties on offer in Zone 2 at ~£750 a month. Private rents for similar properties would be £6,000+. Enormous subsidies are being distributed in the worst possible way.

🇬🇧 More than 150 kebab takeout shops across Britain have been given government licences to hire workers directly from overseas through a new visa program.

Crucially, the licences not only allow the Kebab shops to hire workers from abroad, but once those workers are in, they will be allowed to bring family members into the UK.

There are over 1.8 million people unemployed in the UK, but yeah, why not bring in more overseas workers, because this is clearly a highly skilled job.

Dear Lush (cc Chelmsford City Council),

As a woman who had half a breast removed last year due to cancer, I am writing to raise my concerns about your “Proud of My Stripes” window display.

I am also, on behalf of other women who have experienced breast cancer, respectfully requesting its removal.

Because mastectomies are not a fashion statement, an identity marker or something to be celebrated.

They are something women undergo because they are ill, because they are frightened, because they are trying to stay alive.

Around 59,000 women are diagnosed with breast cancer in the UK every year. Many will undergo surgery - a mastectomy, lumpectomy or other procedure.

Others choose preventive mastectomies because they carry a high-risk BRCA gene mutation.

If a woman chooses to have her breasts removed to affirm a gender identity, that is her personal choice.

I honestly don’t know the number of women who have elective mastectomies for this reason.

What I do know is that it is a tiny number compared with those for whom breast surgery is medically necessary and not something to be celebrated.

I think I speak for many women who have experienced breast cancer - and for their families - when I say this:

Breast removal surgery is not something I regard as cute, playful or empowering.

Nor is it something I believe retailers should be celebrating.

For that reason, I am requesting that the display be removed and that @ChelmsCouncil apologise for promoting it on social media.

Iryna Zarutska was 23 years old, had fled the Russian invasion, and had spent three years rebuilding her life in Charlotte, North Carolina.

On the night of August 22, 2025, she was returning from her job at a pizzeria when Decarlos Brown Jr., 35, approached her at the East/West Boulevard station on the Lynx Blue Line and stabbed her in the neck and throat without any provocation whatsoever. Iryna died right there.

What makes this case unbearable is not only the brutality of the crime, but what came before it. Brown had racked up 14 arrests for offenses including armed robbery and assaults. Despite that record, in January 2025, just seven months before the murder, he was released on nothing more than a written promise to appear in court. No bail, no real supervision. Just his word.

On June 10, 2026, at a federal hearing in Charlotte, Brown shouted at Judge Kenneth D. Bell, interrupted the session, and claimed that devices implanted in his body controlled his actions. Defense attorneys submitted a federal psychiatric evaluation and asked that he be declared incompetent. The judge granted it. Brown will be committed for up to four months to a federal prison medical center, and the trial, which carried the death penalty, is now suspended indefinitely. The system that let him go free so he could kill Iryna is now also giving him the time he needs to avoid answering for it.
