My favorite capture of the night: The moment the moon's shadow split the sunset in half, leaving a diamond ring in the sky and a breathtaking view. I call it "Shadows on the Balearic Sea".
I'll have prints available for this one linked in my bio for a few days only.
During a spacewalk, the carbon dioxide that an astronaut exhales must be removed. This is done by a "scrubber" inside the spacesuit, but once the scrubber fills up, it must be regenerated before reuse. The new Axiom Space spacesuit, or the Axiom Extravehicular Mobility Unit (AxEMU), features a special CO2 scrubber that uses the vacuum environment of space to regenerate the carbon dioxide removal system — allowing it to be reused repeatedly without swapping out canisters, giving astronauts more flexibility and endurance during future lunar spacewalks!
Total solar eclipses provide a unique opportunity to study the Sun, and on Aug. 12, we'll take to the skies to learn more.
NASA-funded teams will study the eclipse with a high-flying research jet and scientific balloons: https://t.co/ec9MqxTSAS
Wishing the summer heat would fade? It could be worse! The dayside of one of the hottest planets known, KELT-9 b, is hotter than the surfaces of some stars. #MondayMotivation
The sky is full of excitement this month! You can look forward to seeing:
- A lunar and solar eclipse
- The Perseid meteor shower
- Venus at its brightest

The 2026 Buck Moon as it appeared over Southern Arizona last night. Think clouds acted as a prism, splitting the broadband light from the moon into a stunning array of colors.
This is an HDR composite captured from two photos, one exposed for the moon, one exposed for the halo.
What gives this cosmic lighthouse its checkmark shape? Our IXPE telescope studied the pulsar within the Lighthouse Nebula and its turbulent outflows, confirming a 2008 theory that its long, thin filament is shaped by the galaxy’s magnetic fields. More: https://t.co/D6cgMoVOlT
There's a solar eclipse happening on Wednesday, Aug. 12 — and if you're not in the path of totality, you can watch along with us online! Get the details: https://t.co/aAYzLGEqPU
The interior design of the Axiom Station is important to the user experience. Thoughtful layouts and standardized interfaces will make the new station accessible to a variety of people. I trained for almost 4 years as an astronaut before launching into space for the first time, but the training duration for commercial astronauts is much shorter. This is why we are taking a different approach with the Axiom Station. The intuitive design will reduce workload, simplify operations and open space to future explorers who will not have years of traditional astronaut training.
During his eight months aboard the @Space_Station, @Astro_ChrisW conducted numerous experiments to improve life on Earth and prepare us for future space missions.
