@kmart073 @edavidsonhed So true! If athletics are promoted above all else, then what happens when that ends? Not all individuals make in to the pros, so how will they prepared if their education is lacking?
@ElizaAlva21 @edavidsonhed So true Elizabeth! In addition, just because women can play sports like "women's soccer" or "women's basketball", doesn't mean they are included in sports there is still a separation. Like how women are encouraged to play flag football instead of football.
@JohannahMoyn1 @edavidsonhed So true! How can we expect athletes of color to feel like they belong, when all they see is white individuals in higher up positions. We need to normalize racial equality.
According to the NCAA there is a lack of diversity in sports like lacrosse, baseball, swimming etc. Why is it that these specific sports don't promote inclusion? What makes these sports less accessible to non-white students? #ucr50 @edavidsonhed
@esald013 @edavidsonhed Good point! There needs to be a balance between athletics and education. Also teachers shouldn't deny students the opportunity to pursue a class/major that interests them, just because they are athletes.
A student being denied the right to take a class or pursue a major they are interested in is devastating. The college/organization should find solutions so that they can attain their academic and athletic dreams. #ucr50 @edavidsonhed
@zayzayiscrazy @edavidsonhed Great minds think alike. We picked the same image lol. I agree I think that while universities and organizations try to make opportunities for student athletes to be both they can never really be both. They will always have you choose one over the other.
Student athletes are balancing academics and sports. Universities & organizations try to let them be both but they cant. From the pressure, schedule and the money they bring in it prevents them from being both. They are athletes first and students second. #ucr50 @edavidsonhed
@scarp010 @edavidsonhed So true! Its just like how from last weeks readings they talked about all these policies in place to prevent exploitation and discrimination, and yet it still continues. Student athletes should be compensated 4 their efforts!
@kmart073 @edavidsonhed You bring up a good point! However, I think that what's even more pressing is the fact that they don't see any return on that effort. Athletes generate so much $ 4 universities, and yet they never see a dime of it. What is keeping them there?
Imagine putting your blood sweat and tears into something only to have someone else reap the benefits of your hard work. College athletes are being used as money machines 4 universities and they should receive compensation 4 their work! #ucr50 @edavidsonhed
@sanahaj10 @sanahaj10 I agree! I think that the reason the dishonesty and unethical conduct is occurring more frequently is because of the internet. We are so connected and we receive information quicker where as back in the day information was shared less quickly & not as connected. #ucr50
Its the 21st century, how is it that women and people of color are still experiencing bias and inequality within college sports? Why aren't the NCAA principles of conduct preventing this? #ucr50 https://t.co/FFXGPtT3hx
